I know lo won't remember and doesn't want for anything, but I still need to buy them something for their first birthday that's coming up!

We didn't get them much for Christmas (again, didn't need anything and wouldn't remember).

So any ideas of what I can buy my child for their first birthday??!! Please help!

This looks good! Just not sure we would have the space for it at the moment 🤔

What about a little ride on car type thing? My daughter had a wheely bug which was lovely and got lots of use. We've got our son a John Deere tractor ride on (the minitrac one without pedals). Nice for them to use inside while they're small and it's cold but will be used lots outside in summer. Any kind of ride on with something to lift up and put things in or a little trailer on the back would be good.

A play tunnel or pop up tent also?

Nix32 · 18/01/2021 19:40

We got our son a beautiful mamas and papas rocking horse and our daughter a moover dolls pram. Both had plenty of use but are now in the loft for when there are grandchildren (looooooong way off!).

We got ds a little ball pit for the lounge, the balls came in a bag from tesco and the plastic tub now has cushions and blankets in it as a cosy corner thing. He loves bashing the balls together and throwing them at dh 🙄

Books
Ball pit
Tunnel
Pop up tent
Push along trike
Ride on car
Finger Paints
Slide
Swing

Such an easy age to buy for.

We got DS a little push along walker. He loved it. I found the one that we got works much more safely on csrperthan wooden floor (which we have in the living room).

Palmtree · 18/01/2021 19:52

Car seat system. He loved the box, we got what we needed for transport.

(He's a teenager now, and absolutely no memory of his first birthday, so we don't feel anyone came away disappointed).

Throughabushbackwards · 18/01/2021 19:53

We bought DS a wooden push along truck and a lovely hard cover copy of Peter Pan.

Throughabushbackwards · 18/01/2021 19:54

... by push along I mean that it had a handle that doubled as a walker.

We got some toot toot cars and track. He still abit young for the track part but likes the toot toot songs. I figure he will get a couple years of entertainment from them. Was also looking at a trike thing.

We bought a wooden "Birthday train" for DS when he turned 1 and it decorated his birthday table every year until he turned 10. There are quite a few online but I like the wooden colourful ones the best. Take a look at this one:

We bought DS a pikler triangle, he’s four and still
using it.

Also as @palmtree said functional stuff us a good idea.
His aunt got him a travel booster seat for his first birthday

YouBeYou · 18/01/2021 20:08

I've just ordered a little wooden puzzle/sign for mine. It's personalised with his name and on the back it's being inscribed with "on your first birthday..."

I figured he can play with it now and when he gets older we can stick the letters into place and put it on his bedroom door as a sign.

I'll probably end up losing two of the letters and chucking it away but it was a nice thought!

Classic board books, “brio” type train set, Duplo

PlantDoctor · 18/01/2021 20:47

We got her a toy box, new books, small toys and wooden blocks

LBB2020 · 18/01/2021 21:00

Ball pit, bubble machine, light and sound drum

Orangedaisy · 18/01/2021 21:02

Dd1 happyland (still played with now at 6yo), DD2 a scuttlebug (also still played with by both).

loolid · 18/01/2021 21:11

A Tuff Tray if you don't mind messy play!

I saw a thing the other day where the parents brought a large fireproof lockbox type thing and asked family and friends to give a gift to go in it for the child to open when they were 18. Like a time capsule.
It was really lovely. The girl was 18 and there were letters from long departed family etc, heirlooms, papers, all sort.

Push along Thomas the Tank if they are still sold.
