Twins- breastfeeding or formula?

Hello,

I’m after some advice!

I have a little girl, and I am about 11 weeks pregnant with twins. DD will be just 3 when they are born. It’s all a bit of a shock and I’m trying to get my head around a few things.

Breastfeeding with DD was absolutely everything to me, and planning another child I would have 100% EBF and never given formula (just a decision that I would have wanted- not that there is anything wrong with it).

However, when I found out it was twins. All I thought about was how? Without ever spending any time with my little girl again, or ever getting any kind of sleep, and possibly losing my mind through constant cluster feeding!

So part of me wants to do dummies and formula to potentially make life easier- but I’m just not sure how to come to terms with that. I’m also worried I won’t have a bond with them and that there will be health issues. DD had a cmpa so I would be scared to give them regular formula.

Just wondering if anyone had experience of this or experience of feeding twins? Whether formula or breastfeeding? Smile

Oh and you’re so lucky your little one is still napping. My boy decided he’d had enough at 2.5 and he was no way ready- neither was I!! 🤣

Ha yes totally! She will literally be 3 the same month they are born so I really hope she still naps, even if it is just 1 hour. Or I will suddenly have 1 non napping toddler and 2 newborn babies to care for!

Hi OP,
I had twins as my third and forth babies, I also had two other children aged 4 and almost 3 at the time of their birth. All my children were/are ebf.
I guess I’m quite lazy but as I have my hands pretty full I couldn’t contemplate also prepping bottles before going out.

I’m still feeding them at eighteen months because it works to send them to sleep, and with everyone at home, plus homeschooling, I’m not giving up anything that works.

I evf my twins and carried in feeding them until they were 2.5. Difficult at first but absolutely doable! Go for it!!!

did you have a double pump? I have a single medela but it is very time consuming so wondering whether to invest in a double.

Definitely, could not have done it without one - was hooked up for 20 mins every 2 hours anyway, if it had been double that I couldn’t have done it.

I had an Ardo Calyso double which I would definitely recommend. Cheaper than Medela but a closed system so you can sell afterwards. I ran mine into the ground and it developed a motor fault after six months - Ardo sent a new one by next day delivery and picked my broken one up at the same time, brilliant customer service.

If I were pumping now I’d be tempted by the wearable ones, or consider some Freemies and make sure I had a compatible pump (back then you had to import these from America but there may be stockists now). Actually freemies and a battery powered pump would probably be a big help with pumping in this situation!
