Confused about baby brushing teeth

My baby is showing signs of a first tooth emerging. I've read that I should apparently start brushing teeth as soon as they emerge. I don't know if this is a daft question, but how and when do you brush a 6 month olds teeth? I give a bottle just before bed (FF) - not feed to sleep but definitely helps baby become drowsy. The last thing I need is to then scoop baby up back into bathroom and start brushing teeth - surely this will just wake her up?

Please can anyone advise how you do brushing? Thank you!

You can see what I've written about the three things you need in order for decay to happen.

Why make brushing traumatic at this stage? Why not incorporate it into a routine so it's easy?

Like I said, you do it when you like. OP has explained how disruptive it would be to disturb her routine to brush teeth after mill and I have provided reassurance that removing the plaque before the milk is just as good.

Same as adults brushing before breakfast. The plaque removal is key, no plaque = no decay.

This is why I stopped trying to offer advice on MN, always one batshitter who things having a dentist is the same as being a dentist.

Given how difficult it can be to brush a baby's teeth, i just don't think i could guarantee I'd get all the plaque every time, though.

You can change routine without it being traumatic. It just isn't as easy as doing nothing. Every parent has different priorities though, i suppose.

I don't appreciate being called batshit for repeating the advice i was given. I hope you're kinder to your patients when you're not safely behind your screen.
