Ive heard they are not recommended by midwives, after buying one 🙈.
But so many people seem to use them? so im assuming there must be some benefits.

I find that the people who are against these machines and say you should use best practice to make up bottles are also the people who are against CIO sleep training methods. But in practice to make bottles up fresh leads to your baby crying for a large amount of time!

Lockdownmummy · 14/01/2021 15:36

After seeing some of the pics online I irrationally convinced myself it would definitely happen to me so couldn’t bring myself round to getting one!

I did buy this though which I think is just as convenient and I love it uneeqbaby.com/collections/favourites/products/uneeqbaby-baby-formula-kettle-with-built-in-thermostat

Blue2021 · 14/01/2021 15:40

Absolutely love it! Midwifes can’t be seen to advertise formula. My aunt (a midwife) thinks they are a brill idea but she can’t say this to her patients. Honestly it was the best thing we bought and baby has been fine on it. I also no off the top of my head at least 8 friends who have had them and all loved them. Xx

My sister had one, her son is now 3 (mine are teenagers) I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen. She absolutely raved about it. So easy to use.

Definitely use the proper filters and clean the machine when it tells you to. My sister is very hygiene conscious ie OCD (diagnosed) so researched it well.

20viona · 14/01/2021 15:50

Yes best equipment ever. My midwife had no problem with it.

ParkheadParadise · 14/01/2021 15:50

Loved it
Had one upstairs and one downstairs.

Katiekat28 · 14/01/2021 15:52

Absolutely love mine, wouldn't be without it! X

F1rstt1imer · 14/01/2021 15:53

Absolutely our favourite purchase! Couldn’t have lived without it

MaggieFS · 14/01/2021 15:55

Yes, very useful. It's a couple of years since I looked into it for DC1, but I recall the UK has especially stringent (and laborious) instructions for making up formula, where other countries allow for more practical options in their instructions such as topping up a boiled water & formula mix with cold water (which is effectively what perfect prep does) or letting water cool in a flask if you're out and still be used. We had to do both of these whilst overseas and DS was fine.

sohypnotic · 14/01/2021 18:48

Definitely yay - getting two is the real game changer, that way you don't even have to go downstairs to do a night feed

staydazzling · 15/01/2021 09:56

i do worry they cool water isnt sterile, but its so handy xx

Absolutely! I read the horror stories and opened ours up - it was pristine.

doireallyneedaname · 15/01/2021 10:18

The water goes through the filter.

DressingGown87 · 15/01/2021 10:45

My HV was against it, but both my midwifes said they where so useful for formula feeding. DD did have diarrhea in the first few weeks, and this was blamed on the prep machine by the HV. But MW and GP disagree, turns out she was CMPA. It’s one of my favourite and most used baby items.

H8624 · 15/01/2021 11:07

We got one as we were finding boiling the kettle and waiting half hour a nightmare especially at night as my little boy was screaming by then!

Such a good purchase. Makes night feeding so much easier as it literally takes a couple of mins to put together!

Amazon had it on sale last week as well when we bought it.

Abouttimemum · 15/01/2021 13:00

We had one and it was magical. The HV and midwives had no issue with it.

user159 · 15/01/2021 13:05

Best thing ever! Used all TT filters and followed instructions religiously. No problems at all. My research showed it was fake filters and not enough cleaning that seemed to cause some issues.

polkadotpixie · 15/01/2021 13:29

Loved ours and will 100% have another if we have DC2

Bert2e · 15/01/2021 13:42

There are concerns about their safety as the water may not be hot enough to kill bacteria in the formula powder so it would be a no from me.

Amazing, best thing ive brought! Never had any issues!

KyraGoose · 15/01/2021 22:21

Yay. Buy a second hand one. Mine cost a tenner off Ebay, no issues 2 years later.

Timeturnerplease · 15/01/2021 22:22

Buy one for every floor of your house. I’d have kissed the person who invented them if I could.

Professionalworrier · 15/01/2021 22:26

@Bert2e That was my initial concern too but I've tested mine and never had a concern about temperature. New Zealand they use cold boiled water to make bottles. I checked their national healthcare website and from what I can see their formulas arent all that different from ours. Although I still wouldnt try it with cold water I think knowing that made me think the machines hot water is bound to be ok

I think OP you need to weigh up all the pros and cons. I treated it as a risk assessment I'd do in work and concluded the risk was greater when I was making them fresh or doing them ahead of time when I factored in the amount of mistakes I was making due to tiredness, losing out on opportunities to nap with baby as I was constantly trying to keep on top of bottles, and how generally stressed out I felt about the whole thing. Some people find it easy and it doesnt bother them and if you are one of those maybe keep going as you are. As for me it's the one baby gadget that I can 100% say saved my sanity. I hadn't realised how stressed out it was making me.

KatyN · 16/01/2021 08:24

Had one for second child, wished I’d got one for the first. We kept ours in the bedroom so it was easy for the night and it was a race to change a nappy in the 2 minutes it takes to make the bottle (wild times).

bleachblondemom · 16/01/2021 22:21

Been using ours for a month and baby is fine. I had an online class with a midwife who raved about them.
