Very clumsy four year old

I am just after some advice as to if others think is is normal. My 4 year old has always been clumsy, we joke that his head and his legs aren't connected as he falls over quite a bit, sometimes seemingly over nothing. Family have noticed it his friends parents have noticed it and often say "oh X you again"

Anyway I have always just thought that DC is a bit clumsy and thought nothing more of it. However yesterday, he managed to bump his head three times in what I would call silly accidents. Getting down from the table, walked into a door handle and into some drawers. Today out for a walk he was in his scooter and had stopped and fell over! He wasn't even moving at this point. Does this seem normal or excessive?

I am going to ask his teacher to contact me next week to see what she thinks but don't know if I am overreacting or not?

I was always an overly clumsy kid, it was my school that picked up that I had an issue. I was referred to see a specialist and had to work on building my hand and eye coordination.

I'm speaking from a place where I was that clumsy child. If people didn't know me better they would have called social services as I was always covered in bruises from falling over or banging into something! 🤣
However, I'm now a mom and if my child was behaving the way yours is, I'd get him checked over with the doctor, just to make sure there is nothing medically causing him to be so unaware of his surroundings.
I'm sure it's nothing abs he's just a clumsy kid! 🤪

Was just coming o to suggest dyspraxia then realised that Nimbus had beaten me to it. So just seconding that.

How are his gross and fine motor skills? Any history of ear infections? Eye check recently? Dyspraxia Foundation has checklists for each age group.

This was my now 5 year old, get his eyes tested. Trust me. My boy ended up having +5 vision in both eyes and was given glasses.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me so quickly. I have had a look at the Dyspraxia website and some of those pints definitely seem to fit although not all. I will speak to their teacher next week and see what she says and try and schedule a call with a doctor as well. I'm glad that everyone hasn't said I'm being over the top. Hopefully DC is just clumsy but if there is something else going on the sooner we know about it the sooner we can help.

It might be worth trying to get a referral to an occupational therapist. We were referred for both ds1 and ds2. At our primary school they do the Fizzy programme. I found this online about it www.nhsggc.org.uk/kids/healthcare-professionals/paediatric-occupational-therapy/fizzy-programme/ .both ds1 and ds2 have a diagnosis of developmental coordination disorder and will probably get extra time in their exams as it effects their handwriting.
