Hi all.
I have posted a few times about my DS having cradle cap. He has had this for nearly 2 months now and it's just getting worse every day.
We have done the oil, soft brush and shampooing his hair more regularly. We are now also using dentinox shampoo. We have only used this 3 times and so far there is no change. In fact it's worse!
It's all over his head, all over his forehead, which is really really red and now creeping down his face and on his eye brows.
I'm at a loss on what to do to help it go away and I'm concerned that despite our efforts over the last 2 months it's just got worse!
The doctor won't see him (no shocker there!) And when I spoke to them on the phone they prescribed Dermol which just made it worse so we stopped using it.
I know it isn't harming my DS but after 2 months I expected some sort of improvement.
Anyone else had it like this with their baby?
Is there anything else I can do seeing as though my doctors surgery clearly doesn't give a shit!
😫

Have you tried just using warm water and no products on the affected areas? My baby had it on her forehead and eyebrows and it seemed to disappear quickly after ditching the baby products and just using warm water on her head and face 😊

lockdownpregnancy · 09/01/2021 12:23

We have but it just dried his skin out even more and made it worse on his forehead 😞

We stopped shampooing as often and only rinsing the hair with water and it made a huge difference. Have you tried that?

We wash his hair with dentinox every other day. Before that we washed it only twice a week (we bathed him more often than that 😝)
With child's farm shampoo and before that Johnson's.
We weee prepared to pay for a private video consultation with a doctor o he could be seen but as my baby is not over the age of 18 they won't do it!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
So I've requested yet another appointment with my GP and I will just lose my shit on the phone this time instead as I'm sick of being fobbed off! 😥

Sorry to hear the GP hasn't been very helpful! :( Another thing you could try is Aveeno baby wash and shampoo. Johnsons used to give my baby a dry itchy rash and it went away after we started using Aveeno! :)

cactusdog · 09/01/2021 14:20

I think you need to stick with the dentinox for a bit longer you've only used it three times. Try washing his hair with it every day for a week. Massage and leave it in for a little bit. Then soft brush the next day x

lockdownpregnancy · 09/01/2021 22:09

We are going to @cactusdog I just feel at a loss that it's getting worse everyday despite our best efforts!
His skin looks so sore on his forehead too, the poor thing! 😥

More likely to be eczema on forehead. Try Aveeno. Dd had "cradle cap" until 7/8 when her scalp became more naturally oily.

pursuedbyablackdog · 09/01/2021 23:13

Dd had this, I stoped washing her altogether! Just did a top and tail wash on her changing unit until she was 6 months, and then went back to bathing, but keeping her head out of the water. I also gave up baby swimmingwhich she hated as that seemed to aggravate it to! I started washing her hair again when she was about a year I think!

lockdownpregnancy · 10/01/2021 08:57

Thank you ladies. I know some of it is definitely cradle cap but his bad skin on his forehead we just don't know! And seeing as though the GP won't give us the time of day and actually LOOK at my baby face to face, it's extremely difficult to know what it is (FTM so all new to me!) and to treat it properly!
I think is disgraceful that GP's won't even see babies!

They are seeing babies but strictly for things that need to be seen I.e. if you said baby was wheezy etc they'd listen to the chest. Unfortunately, cradle cap is mainly cosmetic so it'll be a lesser priority. We had to use dentinox for weeks to see any improvement. We used baby oil on the cradle cap in his eyebrows and that came off. If it's sore, more likely to be eczema - if you tell them about sore eczema maybe they'll want you to bring baby to be seen?

Aria999 · 10/01/2021 18:15

Are you using any ointment on his face?

This is our go to absolute savior for eczema

Just child's farm moisturiser.
The thing is we don't know if it's eczema on his face or not as the GP won't see him to confirm. So we are at a loss!
It's quite clear it's cradle cap on his head but got knows on his face! He doesn't scratch it which makes me think it isn't eczema 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
@3rdtimelucky2019 your lucky if your baby is being seen at your GP practise. You can't even get past reception at my one!
When my baby had issues breathing when he was first born I practically sobbed down the phone to get him to be seen, only to be told they would see him abs I had to call 999!!!
I mean, really!!!! My doctors is a joke! 😥

Eczema is a very generic term. Babies often have flare ups on skin and scalp which just clear up in time. Unless it is infected there is really little a gp can do. How old is he? Could be a reaction to washing powder, any perfumed products, food/dairy...

lockdownpregnancy · 10/01/2021 19:37

@LIZS he's 15 weeks. I haven't changed anything with washing powder, milk etc since we have had him, so I don't think it's an allergy to anything like that.
It appears we may just have to grit our teeth and power through, but as I've said before it's getting worse, which is why I'm worrying! 😫
