Eco friendly nappies - are they worth it? If so which ones?

I wondered if anyone has used the so called 'eco brand' nappies. The ones that are disposable but are biodegradable (excuse the spelling mistakes pls).

Whilst the thought of filling landfills with pampers makes me cringe, i want the convinience of throw away nappies. So, to ease my conscience i thought that perhaps i would use the type that advertise that they do biodegrade and don't sit in the ground for a millenia.

So what are peoples' experience? are they worth it? Where do you get them from for best value.

Thank you.

Hi there. Not 100% sure of my facts so don't take it as gospel, but pretty sure even the biodegradable ones don't degrade properly in landfill because the conditions for them to do so aren't right. The claim comes when you compost them yourself, which you have to do separately. Having said that, they don't use nearly as many petrochemicals and have far less of an impact on the environment in their manufacturing process.

The only ones with absolutely no polyacrylate(?) gel in are the Tushies, but have to say they are a bit rubbish compared to Moltex Oko and Nature Nappies. Have noticed Asda do their own brand econappies but haven't tried them.

In my experience, washables truely are the best. Honestly. Have only had one spillage with a washable so far and that's because it was just a muslin cloth in a wrap.....(and dh put it on and it was an explosive bf poo)

Hope this helps!

Hi
I don't like Nature - they are a bit rough round the edges so feel a bit scratchy and they are a bit stiff and inflexible.

I got samples of Moltex and Bambo and Moltex seemed horrid things but I really really liked the Bambos - they were really soft and absorbent.

Would be interested in other people's views

We have used Nature nappies in the past; stopped using them with DS as he's a chubby chap and the tapes used to dig in at the top of his legs and leave horrible marks. Now we use the Bambo ones, which we're very pleased with. If I run out (can only get online thru' Spirit of Nature) I buy Moltex Oko. Not convinced how 'friendly' they (any of them) are for the environment, but I like to try at least. Did use washables with DD but sort of lapsed when had DS too and we moved house (bigger house but strangely significantly smaller bathroom!). Have only ever once used Pampers, and absolutely hated them.
Moltex were good (hadn't discovered Bambo at this point) when DS was very new and had fiendishly sensitive skin - my HV was very impressed and now apparently recommends them for that reason.
Spirit of Nature do free samples of their eco-friendlier disposables, I think.

I have used Tushies, Nature and Moltex and both DH and I like Moltex the best - also the packaging can just be put on the compost heap to biodegrade (I cant keep up with cloth now we have two in nappies....)
I get them from Little Green Earthlets in bulk, so works out less.www.earthlets.co.uk/

we use moltex, really like them and likewise our HV has now recommended to others. were getting from natural colleciton and spirit of nature. but when this batch runs out i'm going to give weenees a go. half and half. tried a sample the other day, can flush the inner, and just wash the pant outer thingy.

moltex.only used few times as in cloth.but no leaks etc.

If I have to use disposables, then I use the nature ones, mainly because they are the only ones available in supermarkets and if I need them, I need them now iyswim
