Best washable nappy for night time

APerfectSpy · 05/01/2021 12:44

We've been using MotherEase Wizard Uno but they don't last all night even with two boosters. Admittedly baby is currently sleeping for 12 hours so we are really pushing our luck I know. Can anyone recommend a washable nappy which would keep baby dry all night for 12 hours?

Thank you

We use motherease bamboo sandys with sandys stay dry insert and wrap and never had problems, nappy lasts all night with no leaks, using size L from around 5 months and they still fit now at 20 months and will until potty training I think, I have 6 sets and washing every other day..

Ohalrightthen · 05/01/2021 13:55

We use little lamb bamboo all-in-ones with fleece liners and wraps, and they're excellent. Never had a leak, and we don't use boosters.

OwlBasket · 05/01/2021 14:02

I used to use a bamboozle, a hemp booster, a bamboo booster and microfibre booster (stacked in that order) with a mother ease airflow. Bombproof. TBH it’s the booster combo that does the heavy lifting rather than the nappy.

Oh. This was with older babies, maybe from a year or so? It’s a long time ago and I had 2 in nappies so hard to remember exactly.

They didn’t need so much absorption when they were smaller, a bamboo booster came first, then later the microfibre on top of that, then finally added the hemp in as an under-layer last of all.

SpikeDearheart · 05/01/2021 15:13

TotsBots bamboozles here too. Now he's nearly 11 months and wetting quite heavily we've needed to add a bamboo booster inside the nappy (we use Little Lamb triple) and a hemp booster folded into a pad between the bamboozle and the wrap (we use either TotsBots peenut or Little Lamb wraps). No leaks!

User0ne · 05/01/2021 15:24

I found with Ds2 that no matter how many boosters I put in he would soak through them overnight, even when I changed him a couple of times. He was just a heavy wetter.
For my own sanity/sleep I swapped to a disposable overnight and reusables during the day.

Caspianberg · 05/01/2021 15:26

We use tots bots bamboozle, with two bamboo inserts. Tots bots wrap.

Ds 8 months usually goes 8pm-7/8am in the one nappy.

At a certain point babies go from loads of small wees to fewer big wees, some just do it earlier than others. that’s where the microfibre comes in handy. It doesn’t hold a huge amount but it absorbs really quickly - giving time for the moisture to soak through to the other more absorbent but slower working boosters.

So. Microfiber absorbs the fastest but smallest amount, cotton is next in terms of speed and absorbency, then bamboo then hemp. Hemp really does hold tonnes but it’s awfully slow it.

Microfiber cleaning cloths are fine for using, doesn’t need to be purpose made.

APerfectSpy · 05/01/2021 19:29

@OwlBasket where do you place these boosters using the bamboozle nappy? I've only ever used all in one nappies (wizard uno or bambino mio solo) and there is a pocket to put them in. Do bamboozles have a pocket?

Motherease sandys with a hemp booster between the nappy and wrap and either a motherease airflow or a wool wrap (if you can be bothered with the faff of wool as it needs lanolin treatments and whatnot)

Caspianberg · 05/01/2021 19:56

@APerfectSpy - in the bamboozle there’s no pocket. There is one insert poppered in at one end ( you can remove when smaller if not needed).

You can add small inserts under this or any side ones ontop.

I usually add a thin one under, and regular tots bots insert ontop. Then fleece liner ontop. Thats stopped any wetness after 11/12hrs. I have only started adding second recently as he was getting damp vest.

My 8 month old is a rubbish sleeper and still feeds 3+ times overnight.

NeuroMama · 05/01/2021 20:17

Motherease Sandys here with my 3 month old. Not yet needing to boost.

LunaNova · 05/01/2021 21:23

We use terries with our DD (9 months), they last 12/13 hours overnight and she still has 1/2 feeds. They were a pain to start with but I quickly got the hang of it, plus they are super cheap compared to other options!

We boost our terries with 2 little lamb bamboo boosters in the middle and then another across her waist as she's a tummy sleeper. We've never had a leak with this combo Smile

OwlBasket · 05/01/2021 22:24

Yy, what Caspianberg said. Just stacked them in the crotch, as it were, fleece liner over everything.

I always used fleece liners, in the day as well as at night. Marvellous things. You can make them by cutting up a fleece blanket, even the cheapest are fine but ‘nicer’ fleece does last longer. No need to hem. The ones I was bought were indistinguishable from the home made ones.

But. One layer of fleece is good - lets the moisture through but still feels dry. Two layers of fleece OTOH is effectively waterproof, bizarrely.

OwlBasket · 05/01/2021 22:30

Actually I used to fold the microfibre booster before stacking it. The idea was extra moisture grabbing where needed most. One third folded towards the middel, thick bit either in the front of the nappy or the center depending if it was for DDor DS. Mine weren’t tummy sleepers mind.

Roseability18 · 05/01/2021 22:32

Also recommend a Tots Bots bamboozle with a bamboo booster and a Motherease Airflow wrap. The airflow wraps come in lots of different sizes but go for the larger ones as even if they look too big (like big bloomers!) they still work by some crazy magic - and this means they last for longer so you don’t need to re-buy. We’ve had XLs since LO was 8m or so (now over 2y).

Boringnamechanging · 05/01/2021 22:37

Little lamb 2 part bamboo with bamboo booster (you can get double or triple thickness) and motherease airflow wrap.

FraterculaArctica · 05/01/2021 22:41

Bamboozles with boosters and wraps. How old is your baby? I have a bundle of size 1s (fit up to 6 months or so) I'm looking to sell.

APerfectSpy · 05/01/2021 23:16

Thanks everyone! Baby is 6 months but I gave birth to a giant Michelin baby wearing 12-18 months clothes! Sounds like the bamboozle might be the best option for us (with wrap and boosters).

OwlBasket · 05/01/2021 23:52

The Motherease Airflow wraps really are brilliant. Somewhat bloomer like as rosability says, but unbeatable.

APerfectSpy · 07/01/2021 16:45

@OwlBasket I now have the following:
Bamboozle stretchy nappy
Mother ease airflow wrap
Microfibre boosters
Charcoal bamboo boosters
Hemp boosters
Thin fleece poo liners

You sound very experienced in this! Would you be so kind as to advise which order to stack the boosters to get the best results? Which layer should keep the baby's bottom dry to touch?

Thanks so much!!

Hi! I cloth nappied 2 under 2, not sure what I was thinking tbh! MN helped hugely back in the day when there wasn’t much info about. It’s good to be able to give back. It was a long time ago though, my youngest is about to turn 12😱

Stretch bamboo wasn’t a thing then but it sound fab.

So, yeah, it’s best to stack;
Nappy, laid flat
Hemp booster
Bamboo booster
Microfiber booster
Fleece liner
Baby
Then the wrap over the nappy, obviously.

Good luck

APerfectSpy · 07/01/2021 18:35

Amazing @OwlBasket thanks ever so much!! I was getting a bit overwhelmed by all the possible configurations of layers!! I will try this tomorrow when the nappies will be dry after first washing and give it a go! SmileSmile

After using tots bots bamboozle I recently swapped to a Baby Beehinds night nappy. They are VERY expensive but VERY good. In my bamboozle I use a motherease sandy inside and a hemp booster outside (between the nappy and the wrap). If you put too many inserts inside you'll compromise the fit and might get a leak.

ZooKeeper19 · 07/01/2021 21:37

@APerfectSpy I have a 14mo (96th percentile). Sleeps (i mean is in his cot in his night nappy..) 7:30pm - 8am.

We use superpee bamboo terry from little pants, and a wool long pants. Nothing else. No leaks, never. Two pieces, cheap, reliable, easy to use. Wash and dry as easy as anything. Can not recommend enough. If the baby is super wet every day you can add a hemp or bamboo booster (nappy, booster fleece, pants).
