Silly baby clothes Q

DD is 10 months and about to start nursery (🤞).

Obviously we've not seen many other babies so I'm not sure what's normal...

At home she's mainly wearing a long sleeve vest and tights. She takes socks off instantly if she has them on with leggings and so I worry about cold feet with that combo and dungarees ect get in the way of crawling.

Vest, thick tights and a cardi is an ok outfit for a baby, right? Or will she look half dressed?

I used to dress mine in shorts and tights frequently at that age. I found the shorts helped the tights stay up.

I have a boy so not the same but I'd treat the vest as a base layer so I'd have a top on too.

My 10 month old DD started nursery a couple of months ago, I'd also treat the vest as a base layer so have a top over it, and the cardi in your nursery bag incase she needs an extra layer.

She needs additional bottoms and a top. Definitely half dressed.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 03/01/2021 22:22

Leggings would be fine, but tights will look like tights and no matter how old you are you need something over the top of them
Or you look half dressed (as you are)

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 03/01/2021 22:25

A vest is not a top layer.

At 10 months my daughter would be nappy, tights and vest with clothes on top, maybe a top and pinafore and (at this time of year) a cardi too.

farandfew · 03/01/2021 22:37

Vest and tights is a perfect bottom layer, then stick dungarees/romper/top and trousers on top.

ohidoliketobe · 03/01/2021 22:39

With my sock hating DD I put leggings over tights. Defo a top over vest too, vest is base layer

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 03/01/2021 22:41

I know our nursery are spending quite a bit of time outside at the mo so I'd add leggings over the tights and a long sleeved top between vest and cardigan.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 03/01/2021 22:44

Why can't she wear trousers over the tights and a top over the vest? How does that affect crawling? You must have a warm house. My baby was in a vest, top and cardi today plus woolen trousers.

LaTomatina · 03/01/2021 22:52

Mine wore leggings or dungarees or trackie bottoms at that age, with a vest and a long sleeve t-shirt. At home they were barefoot indoors because our house has slippy floors so safer for pulling up/wobbly walking. In nursery socks are fine because they have to wear slippers when they're indoors and although they would never keep slippers on at home, at nursery it just isn't a problem for them (ditto napping on a bed and eating salad...)

Marmite27 · 03/01/2021 22:54

I’d treat vests and tights as a base layer.

Leggings and a long sleeve top with a vest underneath and socks were my go to for nursery (still are tbh!).

soanco68 · 03/01/2021 23:05

Dresses and pinafores or shorts might be best. Looks dressed but knees not restricted. Easier for a girl than a boy. Though boys are fine in tights under trousers. Babies and their socks. Smile

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/01/2021 01:34

I have a 9 month boy who goes to nursery. He wears a vest, a long sleeved tshirt type top, and leggings/trousers. I always put him in socks but tbh hes pulling himself up to standing now and the socks make for a slippery surface, and he always comes home without them on.

One tip would be to not put her in anything expensive/nice. It always gets trashed.

PriceEmUp · 04/01/2021 02:49

Now it’s winter I put tights on my 1yo with leggings on top, then a. Long sleeve top too.

For nursery I tend to send her in my lesser cares about onesies, they come home with paint/food stains often!

I know how you feel though, I constantly feel like I’m going to be judged for what I send her in haha

Minesril · 04/01/2021 10:01

Get some sock-ons. They keep socks on!

I would think they were half dressed to be honest. I used to use vests as tops but with trousers or dungarees over the top.

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/01/2021 10:05

A vest goes under clothes. I would probably be a bit Hmm if I saw a baby just wearing a vest and tights - particularly at this time of year.

The nursery is highly unlikely to be as warm as you house must be.

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 04/01/2021 10:10

Nursery is cooler than at home. DS wears a vest, some joggers, a T-shirt and a hoodie or jumper. She'll need more layers. You can get trousers with feet built in but socks will probably be easier, the wee things mentioned up thread are supposed to be good.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/01/2021 10:40

To be honest, if I saw a child dressed like that I would assume you intended to put a pinafore dress over and either forgot it, or she was sick on it in the car. Our nursery also asked for layers where possible (so extra top + thinner jumper instead of thick jumper) so they can take off or put on as necessary.

Our go to is legins / vest / long sleeve top, plus jumper in the bag. DD was a early walker so had shoes which also stop her pulling off socks. Would some type of soft booties over socks work?
