i have cottom bottoms in nb that i'm using on my 3 week old and they aren't too great, i end up having to wash the wrap each time too as the poo leaks onto it, also her yellow poo is staining all the nappy bit, and they seem quite small on her too, don't want to buy loads more as i've already spent a fortune on size 1 and 2 cotton bottoms and haven't even opened my other packet of nb.

so, any reccomendations and also what should i use to soak the nappies in?

you could try a poo catcher fold ( nappy lady and twinkle have directions) this would catch the poo in the prefold rather than the pad being in a rectangle inside the wrap. You can sun the stains out either outdoors or in a sunny window, or hang them out in a frosty moonlight night ( strange but true).
They could also be soaked in either milton solution or napisan style sanitiser ( napisan stripped a dark blue nappy white here within a few washes lol )

Someone else is bound to be along to help soon -FLAME where are you

BTW I love your log in name! Guess mine would be 4demondaughtersanddevilson

hee hee thank you

4 daughters wow, i'm only just about coping with 2!

i have instructions on the box to do the poo catching one, will have to use it every time as she's constantly pooing!

thanks for the moonlight tip, will have to try that one

"Yoohoo Flame!"

Use fleece liners instead of paper ones. They draw the moisture away from baby's skin and also stop poo stains on your nappies.

vole3 · 25/10/2007 21:46

I bought my fleece liners from fleecehats on ebay at a cost of £4.75 for 12 including postage.

CarGirl · 25/10/2007 21:47

unfortunately prefolds aren't the best nappies for exploding breast milk poo. You will be fine when she is older and the poo is more solid! I did find fleece liners good for helping catch it though.

I wouldn't soak, all the sanitisers like napisan are very harsh for babies skin. I would do a cold rinse first in the washing machine (or prewash if that's cold) followed by a normal wash.

A little bit of shout spray before you wash the wraps can help, but sunshine is the best natural bleach that there is.

Thanks guys, wish i'd thought about the fleece before i stained all my nappies! will any fleece do? i've got a massive fleece throw that i haven't opened yet.

yes any fleece will do, tbh nappies are meant to be used and will get stained!

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 26/10/2007 12:18

thank you, i know, but they where all nice and white and now they're yellow

Sorry, been in that scary rl placed.

I hate prefolds with a firey passion , sorry!

Dye em Oodles of pretty coloured prefolds - tie dye hides poo stains more than plain dye, but plain dye still works well.

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 26/10/2007 12:40

good idea, thanks!

not sure if they are prefolds, i have to fold them, is that still a prefold?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 26/10/2007 12:43

yes that is prefold!!! If your larger one are still new & sealed sell them and buy 2nd hand ones or invest in shaped nappies.

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 26/10/2007 12:55

i've got one size 1 and one size 2 unopened, but there's no way i'll get my money back as they seem to be getting discontinued from tommee tippee, they have the packs for £18 and i bought mine from Boots in a sale for £25, thought i was getting a good deal, grrr!
