Losing the fight against tangled/matted hair!

Help! My 7 year old has frizzy thick hair and no matter what i do it's always tangled and frizzy. I've tried different shampoos and conditioners and will sit for ages with a comb and detangling spray and I plait it for bed which almost always ends up falling out through the night. What else can I do? Ppl joke about her not brushing her hair etc it's so fly away. Anyone have any product ideas or general ideas of what could work? Thanks.

Have you got a picture you can share? Have you tried curly girl method to try and define her curls a bit in the hope of reducing frizz? Frizz is a dehydrated curl, usually!

You need to re-fresh every day with water and conditioner in a spray bottle to really keep on top of it. What are you using to brush it with? Brushing causes more frizz but I can understand why you're doing it.

Also get a silk pillow case - they honestly make a huge difference.

I'm in the same boat op! Always looks scruffy even though I try to keep it tidy. I've started blow drying it straight now when she gets out of the bath, with lots of leave in conditioner. Still wakes up with it like a birds nest though! I've just ordered satin pillowcases to see if they make a difference

In descending order:
Silk pillow case
Regular trims
Hair up in bun on top of head for sleeping
Sulphate free shampoo and silicone free conditioner (curly girl method)
Comb in sections and comb the ends first holding the hair tightly to make sure you don't pull (bribe with screen/sweets if needed) - some people like tangle teezers but I just have a paddle brush
Put hair in plaits to dry and smooth with leave in conditioner
I have an oil spray to calm frizz

I can brush any child's/animals hair because I know how rough others are and it bloody hurts. I wish someone had treated my hair properly when I was a child.

Ps. I'm white and have thick wavy hair that frizzes dreadfully if brushed or dehydrated. Hair looked awful ages 0-22 but is now my crowning glory. Smooth, shiny and bouncy!

When older, my go to is heated rollers or those pipe cleaner things for very glam hair

Paul Mitchell foaming pomade works for us!

You need to keep it plaited/fishtailed/bunned etc during the day too.

When washing, wet hair first, slather in conditioner, let sit then work through with your fingers until no tats, don’t rinse! Instead apply shampoo just to roots and scrub scalp with fingers then rinse the lot but working your fingers through the hair as you do to keep untangled. When drying, just squeeze with a towel. No rubbing. Work through with fingers again, spray leave in conditioner and then plaits/fishtail/bun etc.

As others have said, satin pillowcases have worked wonders on my daughters hair. We use satin scrunchies for day and night time as well. We get them from cute curlz

Cowboy magic detangler might help.
