1st birthday present for younger sibling?

Total first world problem but amid the grimness of the news: what did you buy your second/subsequent babies for their first birthdays? DC2 is almost one and like many younger siblings, he has inherited a lot of baby and toddler toys. So we have quite a lot of “next stage” stuff. He is very physically active and a confident walker already (loved soft play on the rare occasions we’ve been able to go).

For Christmas, we went very minimal and only got him a few presents (a couple of books, a couple of toys, and some new clothes). I would like to get him something nice for his birthday but don’t know what!

I am torn as to whether to buy myself him something like a Grimms Rainbow or whether that is the kind of toy that looks great but won’t be played with for years if at all. Also considering a push-along trike but seen some people aren’t so keen on them and recommend a balance bike instead? (DC1 had neither as we had no outdoor space then.)

I’m also toying with the idea of buying a Pikler triangle and ramp to be used by both DC1 (5) and DC2. This would be a “big” present (we could afford it but it’s more than we would usually spend on a birthday at this stage) so I’d want to feel confident it would be worth it.

Any thoughts on nice first birthday presents? Do any of you have Grimms rainbows or Pikler triangles? If so, do they get much use? Are there any other indoor physical toys that would give a toddler a work-out that anyone would recommend?!

I had the exact same thoughts to be honest. Our little guy just turned 1 ( Christmas week so lots of presents) we got a couple of things his brother didnt already have ( some toot toot cars and a mega blocks building table) but we have so many toddler toys in the attic I dont want to buy many more going forward.
For my older DSS whose birthday is also quite close to Christmas we started giving him tickets to legoland as his birthday present from about 4 on and have done every year since ( except this year but will hopefully be back to normal next year)
I'm looking at doing something similar for the baby from his second birthday. I was thinking a family pass to a local farm attraction

We got our second dc a grimms rainbow and it is very very well played with but it marks very easily which I was disappointed with for the cost.

What about an indoor/ outdoor trampoline? Our 18 month old is obsessed www.amazon.co.uk/Galt-Toys-A2500H-Folding-Trampoline/dp/B0007VZVGK?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I've no idea what presents I'm supposed to by my second child given the older one has all the things he will need. Probably more clothes and book.

We have a pikler triangle that has gone down well, it's a good one if you have a climber and can also be used for making a den.

Thank you - @Sway19, I did wonder about a trampoline but I thought that might be better for next winter, I imagine he wouldn’t be able to use it independently for some months yet. When did your little one start to get into it?

I should have said we don’t have a huge amount of indoor space - we have a standard living-dining room (think 30s semi style) and I’m sure we can fit in a pikler triangle because of them folding but space is at a premium. And whatever we buy needs to have a weight limit capable of taking a 5 year old as there is nothing more desirable at the moment to him than something only the baby is allowed.Grin

@Lemonlemon88, I have seen mixed reviews on the Grimms rainbows but quite a few complaints about how they stack, etc, for the price.
