All I want in life is a wrap that doesn't HURT my baby!!

Does anyone else have this problem? Every wrap I have tried on DD seems to leave red marks here or there...

Tots Bots: the aplix quite often curls up and rubs her tummy
Motherease: the leg holes cut into her thighs at the front
Aplix Nature Babies: same problem with aplix and also doesn't fit a flat terry

AND this morning my lovely new Wacky Wrap arrived, and I was so pleased with it, but she'd only worn it for half an hour and there were red marks round her legs from the elasticated bit. SO SO disappointed as it looks gorgeous on her!

Can anyone recommend a wrap that will fit a flat folded terry (i.e. quite low on the leg) and won't cut into her skin or rub it? I'm thinking I need a popper rather than velcro type but not Motherease or Wacky Wraps for reasons outlined above! And nice prints wouldn't go amiss either...

are your wraps too tight?

MeltingandScreamingIcarus · 24/10/2007 18:11

try a lovebums. They have fleece leg cuffs. Your dd might be reacting to the elastics.

lailasmum · 24/10/2007 18:13

Its sounds like if your nature babies aren't fitting then you have probably got the wrong size as they are usually plenty generous for terries. Is she a bit on the chubby side on the legs as it may mean you have to go up a size. You could try something totally different like a stacinator so simple.

ooh, fleece leg cuffs sound good...

I don't think they're on too tight as I usually have them on the widest setting round the legs and a more narrow setting round her waist (any wider round her waist and it's builder's bum time) And I always put her in the correct size for her weight or even sometimes the next size up.

Maybe I'm putting the aplix on wrongly? I just try to put the tabs on as straight as I can but maybe I should try more of an angle? What do other people do?

Hm, never heard of Stacinator, just Googled it, are they like normal fleece wraps then?

OP posts:
GogoTheSmall · 24/10/2007 18:19

I do think maybe she's quite chubby in the legs, and slim in the waist

do you use rikki wraps or airflows?

GogoTheSmall · 24/10/2007 18:41

i use airflow wraps

some good tips here, thanks everyone. think i will try a popper nature babies one size up and also a fleece wrap for nighttime like a stacinator.

i would love to try the next size of wacky wrap but that might just be too extravagant!

do the wraps you use have poppers on the legs?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 24/10/2007 18:49

wool longies.

GogoTheSmall · 24/10/2007 18:55

the motherease and wacky wraps are poppered, the others are aplix.

quite interested in the wool longies suggestion actually! like woollywraps? Are they good then?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 24/10/2007 18:56

wool longies are amazing. i got dd3 from babylonglegs IIRC who knits to measure (or used to, its been a while). you lanolise them.

very snuggly and warm.

nappyzone · 24/10/2007 19:00

what about a natures baby multiwrap - poppers. or some nice wooly wraps...

lailasmum · 24/10/2007 19:18

stacinator make lots of wraps but are the same people who make happy heinys. They do a so simple wrap which is a half pull up style with poppers if you want them but fleece at the leg so softer and no elastic.

nappyaddict · 24/10/2007 19:20

hmm my nature babies have poppers around the legs.

Lovage · 24/10/2007 20:42

Are they digging in badly, so they look painful, or just leaving a bit of a red mark, like a pair of socks that's too tight? Does it seem to bother her?

I ask because I went back to see the person I bought my wraps off with just this problem and she had a look and reckoned my DS was fine. (And that wasn't cos she had a vested interested, in fact I was proposing to buy some different ones from her but she said I would be wasting my money) She said that the amount of redness my DS had was unavoidable for a wrap with elastic at the edges. She reckoned some babies are allergic to some types of elastic or that detergent build up can cause problems, but that that would look different from what he has.

Of course she may be talking rubbish (although she's been selling cloth nappies for about 10 years and generally I find she's very good) but, for what it's worth, I decided it was okay. Would be interested to hear what other people reckon - is some amount of red mark unavoidable if using wraps with elastic edges?

lailasmum · 25/10/2007 14:45

I think some kids are sensitive to the wrap elastic but if you think about it I know I often get red marks at the top of my socks/around bracelets/watches etc. and that doesn't hurt at all. So it may not actually be hurting babies unless its really bad and tight.

Detergent sensitivity is a possibility if its really mild it might look like a slight red mark on the contact area.

FlameBat · 25/10/2007 21:33

I am another one yelling for wool.

I have a mixture of ones, my fave for snuggling is seahorse slacks, more daytimey I go for woollywraps or I have a really nice pair of shorties from the hollow oak which I use under jeans etc.

Dodaday · 26/10/2007 11:14

Just seen this thread when replying to one on a similar subject. Try Disana pull on plastic pants from Twinkle Twinkle. The elastic leg openings are very soft and stretchy, so should'nt give any red marks. Also, they are very roomy to fit over any bulky nappies.

nappyzone · 26/10/2007 11:18

yeah wool - i want some longies - anyone got any for sale? or nice new ones for me cheap - Flame???

GogoTheSmall · 26/10/2007 12:15

Thanks everyone - I'm sold on the wool option as DD is very sensitive to detergents etc and I think maybe she's reacting to elastic too. So Woollywraps Woollywraps ra ra ra

Also I've just found a couple of knitting patterns for longies on the net so have just bid on some lovely wool on eBay and will give that a go too!

If anyone's interested, here are the patterns for longies and pants that I found, here and here (you have to pay 10 bucks for the last one but it looks like a really nice pattern so I've taken the plunge)

GogoTheSmall · 26/10/2007 12:27

This is a better link to the free pattern

nappyzone · 28/10/2007 19:36

FlameInHell · 28/10/2007 21:14
