Retained placenta - when did you get it removed?

I had my son in October and have a retained placenta. I've been told I have to wait another 4 months in the hope that my body gets rid of it and anything left they will scrape out. This means I will of had my placenta in me for 7 months, is this normal? When did you get yours removed?

Mine fell out after 10 weeks after a round of contractions and ambulance turning up. Thought I was going into a second labour Grin

I retained the whole placenta after DD2 and was losing a lot of blood so I had it removed about 90 mins after she was born.

How much of it have you retained? Have you asked the consultants for the pros and cons of this approach and expressed your concern?

@Thatwentbadly I had a c-section and they couldn't remove it as it fused to my muscle. I'm going to speak to my gp about it next week but apparently there's too much to remove manually

So it is the whole placenta. Goodness, I can see why that is of concern. My placenta was also fused the wall of uterus, they think it was stuck to my scar tissue from a previous c section.

Be careful OP. The hospital left most of my placenta in by 'accident' when I had my C section. Gave birth in October, in Jan I developed sepsis - and that's when they found the placenta. It was touch and go, and a very scary time. Do not be fobbed off, and if you feel unwell at all please get treatment ASAP.

A week, passed a massive clot a week after baby was born. Called triage who wanted me in immediately. Scanned first thing the following morning to confirm what it was. Given 2 options, manage with tablets or surgical procedure. Consultant told me with either option he would not discharge me that day due to high bp and that if I went down the tablets route he expected I’d be back as a blue light admittance. Procedure was done following day due to a high number if emergency c sections the first day.
