How do you keep your toddler entertained on the bus?

She's 2.5. We never really do a journey longer than half an hour but depending on her mood she can start getting fractious after 10/15 mins or so sometimes. I take story books and sometimes that works for a bit, I've tried crayons and a colouring book but she never seems interested (even though she often likes to draw at home and at nursery). Sometimes we do looking at things on the bus/out the window but that isn't often successful and not for more than a few mins. She's usually sitting in the buggy so her view isn't great for that kind of thing. Does anyone have any ideas that I may not have thought of before?

What about a snack? That might occupy her for 5/10 mins.
Nursery rhymes on your phone? (obviously not loud enough to annoy people)
Small toys?

When dd was younger and a bit grumpy on the bus, she started to whinge (ds was asleep), so I played a quick game of “where is your..” and name a body part that she had to touch quickly.

Always made her laugh if you went quicker and quicker and then saying “where is your...bottom!”

Kept her entertained for a good while

I just point stuff out of the window or sing if they start to get fractious but I'm a childminder so an old hand lol

I don't want to do screens, but then we never do very long journeys and she's usually not too bad on the bus. I would perhaps feel differently with a different child/in different circumstances and I don't think anything of other parents using screens. I think it's very rude and unnecessary to come on this thread with absolutely zero suggestions for me and then start ranting about "shit parenting". Not really in the spirit of this site, is it? Hmm

Thank you to the people who have actually suggested things.

I had them on my lap in a window seat, and looked at everything outside the window. We had 4 children and no car so had no choice but to use public transport.

Definitely snacks. I only use public transport ocassionally (we don't even have any that comes anywhere close to our house), but it's a great excuse for a snack and I would plan the timing around the journey.
