CMPA - Chronic constipation only sign

I hope you've all had a lovely Christmas ☺️ Has anyone's little one experienced chronic constipation as their main symptom? Up until my baby was 7-8 weeks old he really struggled with his bowel movements, to the point he would grunt and strain day and night and was only going every 3 days or so, you could see he was uncomfortable. It was the HV that suggested a possible allergy, so I spoke to the GP and a prescription of Nutramigen was given and less than a week later we noticed a huge improvement. The grunting and staying stopped and bowel movements were daily. Now he's 6 months old the dietician is trying to get us off Nutramigen, so this week we have exchanged 1 bottle a day to build up replacing all bottles and 3 days in the chronic constipation has started again. He tried to go on day 3 but nothing was coming out. We're now 5 days in and still nothing. The dietician is trying to blame weaning but we've been weaning for 3 weeks now and his bowel movements were perfectly fine and still daily on Nutramigen. My instincts are telling me to put him back on Nutramigen. I'm just looking for some advice as the dietician seems really keen to discharge us due to lack of other symptoms. Thanks ☺️

Yes - constipation, wind and tummy cramps were DD main sign. She would lift her legs up and night and slam them down over and over to work out the gas.
She was only diagnosed after six months old when we were weaning and she had blood ink her nappy from straining so much during dairy week.
The change was remarkable once we went onto special formula. Unrelated things like the rash on her cheeks I thought was teething rash and the dry skin on her legs I just couldn't clear up all disappeared. She's almost 13 months now and we are due to start the milk ladder next week. It was the longest battle to get her diagnosed but no one has ever tried to change her back to normal milk once it was done

Yep. DD2 (now 19 weeks) was diagnosed at 10 weeks when I saw a private paediatrician.

From about 3 weeks old she had 'proper' constipation- solid, hard to pass stools which were just about managed with regular lactulose. No skin issues, and was never hugely distressed, but just seemed uncomfortable most of the time- squirming and straining all day and night. She was a totally different baby on nutramigen- no more constipation at all, and so content and happy. No straining or squirming after about 3 weeks on nutramigen.
