When will he poop?!!

Breastfed baby, 7 weeks. My DS1 at this age would poop multiple times a day. For 3 weeks or so now DS2 will not poop for days on end! He has not pooped for four days now, I think! I am listening our for a rumble that never comes!

Please put my mind at ease that this is normal? Did anyone else have an exclusively breastfed infrequent pooper?

In my experience:

if you get in the car is a good time for an up the back explosion, bonus points for when there is nowhere to stop.

Nice clean clothes ready for Christmas photo.

Cream floor/sofa.

When you're already late for something.

Covid precludes the old favourite - when being held by smartly dressed child free family member or friend...

Yes I should just test ride his christmas outfit, there’s still time to wash it again... One of his recent poop blowouts was in ikea and made it all the way to the sling fabric Smile

Both of my bf babies only pooed once a week in a horrible poonami style. Like pp says, at the most inconvenient time possible. It is normal but awful.

Mine wee ones record is 11 days. Try eating some peaches and pears. I was told its normal as bf babies use almost everything so there's little output.

Caspianberg · 24/12/2020 12:15

I remember midwife telling us after the first 2 weeks, breastfed babies can easily go 10 days without pooping with no problems

Unfortunately mine never read that memo, and is at least a 2-3 a day pooper. Maybe he will gift us a Christmas Day with less poop

Whyistheteacold · 24/12/2020 12:16

DD is ebf, she normally poos every 2 or 3 days but she has gone almost a week a few times. I went on YouTube to look at baby massages for her stomach when I was a bit worried that she hadn't gone yet and it really helped!

edgeware · 24/12/2020 12:18

Oh glad to see it’s not unusual! I’m so used to changing several poops a day, I was getting worried!

Yes normal for breastfed babies and for my DS. As mentioned by others, DS ALWAYS pooped when I put him in a new outfit.

My BF baby girl did not poo for over two weeks once. I was concerned but she wasn't in discomfort. She did go finally and it was fine. The Dr told me that most of the milk was metabolized and that there just wasn't that much waste. As long as you are getting plenty of wet nappies and baby is not in discomfort, I wouldn't worry.

roarfeckingroarr · 24/12/2020 12:36

Nothing to worry about OP. My now 9 week old made it 9 days without a poo around 7 weeks. He's now on day 5 of no poo.

Just be prepared for the carnage when it arrives!

My ebf baby was a once every 7-9 days poo baby right up until they started weaning. To be honest, once I knew it was normal, it was amazing. Less laundry and mess and a fun game of nappy roulette between DH and me when it got to day 6 onwards!

As far as I remember the things to watch out for are plenty of wet nappies, steady weight gain and a soft rather than hard tummy. A Doctor also told me that as long as the baby was passing gas that was a good sign that their system was working just fine.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 25/12/2020 20:02

First DS pooped once a week.
Second DS multiple time a day and night.

Both breastfed, no allergies.
