Rash - please help!!

My daughter has had a rash for over 3 weeks. It started as a cluster of pimples which quickly spread. I began treating it as heat rash as that’s what it looked like but it’s no better and continues to spread. GP looked at it but couldn’t tell me what it was and said to continue to monitor it. I’m so frustrated just watching it spread. Really hoping someone may have some advice! Thank you!

Is the rash bothering her at all?

Freshair85 · 24/12/2020 08:21

Could it be eczema? My baby has it and in flare ups always starts as a pimply rash then spreads to just red patches

I had this recently and it was shingles. How old is your daughter?

Thanks for replying. I'm trying to attach a picture but I'm a new user so have to wait 48 hours. She is out of sorts/waking at night/not settling for sleep and has been for the last week or so could be related or just the normal developmental behaviour of a 12 month old! It's a mix of spots and patches now. I would have described it as small blisters at first but starting to see some dry patches. The doctor said no to eczema because of where it is (lower back) but he was a bit useless so may go to see a pharmacist for a second opinion today. What did you use to treat the eczema on your little one?

Pharmacist didn't have any idea either Sad She suggested piriton to help the itch at night so have been giving her that.

That looks like hives to me she may have developed an allergy have you used new, creams, different brand of nappy etc

kimlo · 26/12/2020 15:40

looks like what dd1 gets she has a diagnosis of chronic idiopathic urticaria.

kimlo · 26/12/2020 16:01

the doctor at the allergy clinic said that it had to be cetirizine that she took so if you can try switching to that.

MummytoEv · 26/12/2020 20:26

I've just googled and I think you're right! She's prone to breaking out in hives after illness but usually clears up in a matter of days. I'd overlooked hives because it's still there 3 weeks later!
I think I'll have to head back to the GP for cetirizine as the only syrups I can find are 2+ and 6+ (she's just turned 1!)
Can you recommend any creams or ointments that I could try in the meantime?
Think it's heat that may have brought this out as originally I thought she was suffering with heat rash. I feel such relief finally knowing what it is/ how to treat! Thank you all! Xxx

dd1 takes a daily citirizine then another one on top if she needs to, but she's 16. She also takes a vit d, the allergy clinic tested because it's common for vit d to be low when you have it and it was.

Cream wise she uses diprobase and doublebase bath emollient.

Dd1's is always worse in the winter and we can't work out why. In fact it started at christmas 3 years ago.

MummytoEv · 29/12/2020 20:11

How long does it tend to take your daughter's hives to clear?
We've have the citirizine for 48 hours now and she's just as itchy and hives seem to have joined together. This morning I thought I could see an improvement but really flared up again.
We're not getting any sleep at night as she's so uncomfortable.
Back to GP tomorrow Sad

it can take weeks or months. In fact she's going back to the doctor at some point this week because she isn't sleeping because of it either.

I get a rash just like your pictures if cheap metal touches my skin for a prolonged period, eg belt buckles, jewellery. The rash never spreads more than a centimetre or so from the contact site though. If your daughter is allergic to something that touches her skin I wonder what it could be. It is too high up the back to be caused by the nappy but also too low on her back to get caused by her clothes.
I hope you figure out what it is! Maybe the GP will prescribe some kind of antihistamines
