Nightmare nappy changes

My almost 1yo has suddenly turned into the devil when it comes to nappy changes. He screams, cries and thrashes around. It’s such an unpleasant experience for both of us.

I just don’t get it!! I could understand if I was changing him mid-playing or something but it’s when I get him up or put his nappy on after bathtime too. I’ve tried giving him toys as distraction, changing him in different rooms, on the floor, on my bed, using wet wipes, using cotton wool, talking through each stage, singing. I can’t think of anything else to try. His bottom doesn’t look sore so I don’t think that’s an issue.

I’d just like to change my baby without both of us ending up in tears. Help!!!! 😫

It's just one of those annoying stages that will pass. Pull ups helped a little here. Other than that giving her something she's not allowed, tv remote, my phone. She was terrible at that age then again about 18 months. Grin and wrestle on really.

They all do it, some are worse than others. I actually put my shoulder out once diving to grap one of mine.

Wait till he no longer wants to get into his car seat and it sounds like your trying to kill him to people passing by 🤯

Phase here too. Sometimes a distraction worked but most times it ended in tears/me taking multiple kicks from a determined toddler who, more often than not, ended up face down, bum up on the changing mat!

My youngest is 1.5 and is back to gazing up at me like an adorable little thing!

@ChelseaCat food. Offer food. We have the same (not always but often) and I have food available, he gets to chew on food while I change him. Works a treat. Other distractions work too, and if nothing works I just let him run commando for a bit then prepare some food, sit him on the changing mat, give food, lay him, give food, change (do a bit of silly faces etc) change, more food and off he goes.
