I’ve hit a dead end. What bottle do I need?!?!

DD turns one on New Year’s Eve and HV and internet says it’s best to take them away from their normal baby/sucky bottle and onto a cup type. So we’ve been transitioning and she’s got a few different non spill beakers and flip top bottles but they’re not free flow.
She has the little tommee tippee free flow beakers but they don’t hold 8oz of milk so what do I se for her morning and night bottles?!

Do they still need they’re normal big bottle of milk in the morning and night or do I start giving her cups of milk through the day so she’s having the same amount but split between the day/meals.

I am just so confused now. First time mum please go lightly on me 😂

My youngest is 9, so I am a little rusty in this, but...

I bought many sippy cups etc to move onto a once my babies had grown out of bottles. We kept going back to the basic Tommy Tippy cups though. They are small yes, but at 1, my dc were eating a lot more solids as well as drinking milk during the day.

Ticklemynickel · 22/12/2020 08:39

I used a basic sippy cup from IKEA - holds about 4oz I think. DD drank less once she moved from formula to cow's milk anyway. Cheese and yogurt counts towards the dairy total as well.

I think the transition phase and what suits your little one will be different.

But mine is that my two year old still has a bottle at morning and night (he is a picky eater though)
I’ve tried transitioning to others but he refuses

I’ve got the tommee tippee soft free Flow and the tommee tippee insulated beakers.

Any free flow will work and its what works for your little one!
I offer milk through the day with meals and snacks but he’s not that interested.

Dd had the Munchkin 360 which we both loved. It’s a more cup like drinking position and non leak (unless they launch them across the room) and the large size is great for milk feeds. Just don’t forget to take the silicone bit off to clean!

I bf Dd, so she had her milk during the day in the cup and then big feeds at night from me. But I didn’t drop the night feed till she was nearly 2, just did it earlier in the evening so I could brush her teeth after.

My DS now 2 used a munchkin 360 cup for drinks. We had a small one for water and a big one for milk. Perfect to taking out and about too as they don't spill. The only problem with the big one was that it doesn't have handles but DS lived his milk so much try ay he soon worked it out. We still use the big one for night time milk as he had a habit of having tantrums at night time and I don't fancy the milk spills.

my DD didn't transition to a cup until maybe 22 months. I know the advice is different but frankly, she was having one bottle a day from 13 months and it was for a grand total of 5 minutes a day before teeth brushing. I never put her to bed with a bottle and she has never had a dummy. I wasn't worried about the impact on her teeth or speech.

Ihaveoflate · 24/12/2020 08:55

My 17 month old still has milk out of a bottle in the evening after tea. She uses a munchkin 360 for water but refuses milk out of anything cup-like. I just can't get fussed about it - it's one bottle, drunk in 2 minutes well before teeth brushing and bed.

As others have said, the transition from all bottles to no bottles doesn't have to happen overnight. They don't turn into pumpkins at midnight on their first birthday.

Thatwentbadly · 24/12/2020 09:11

I would start with breakfast and just give her a cup of cow milk or alternative in a sippy cup with breakfast.

DD1 was milk refusing by 12 months and D2 is bf but if I was you I would keep the evening bottle for a bit and slowly transition.

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 24/12/2020 09:21

Mine still liked a fairly big bottle of milk at bedtime, preferring water during the day. It took till about 18 months to switch from bottle to cup at bedtime. These are good for bigger volumes if you already like the tommee tippee beakers:

You can probably find them cheaper elsewhere!

We used ones like this... Tommee Tippee Trainer Sippee Cup 6 Months+, Green https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HTMDMT2/ref=cmswwrcppapifabcc_91g5FbSQFQZGS

They should be eating well at this stage and whilst you do give them milk at meals, not so much that they ignore the food.

Food is more important from now on than milk. Otherwise they do tend to ignore anything other than picky snacks.

For example, they can have milky porridge etc in the morning and there'd be loads of milk in that. But give them a big bottle first thing and they would refuse the porridge of course as they're full. I used to give a fair bit of water too instead of milk, aiming to keep them hydrated without ruining their appetite for solids.

From 1 year on, I also started diluting the nighttime bottle. Just a bit at first. But by 18 months they were drinking straight up warm water at night and hadn't even noticed as I'd done it so slowly.

That was for 2 reasons: a)to protect their their teeth. And b) so they would eat plenty during the day.

strawberrycherryblossom · 24/12/2020 10:50

We use these before naps and bed. It holds 300ml but probably only half is drunk. Bf baby who never took a bottle so won't be fed by me but will walk round/sit down and drink from this. No night feeds here though (13 months) so no advice there.

Tommee tippee has a bigger version of the first cup with the same spout

Timeturnerplease · 24/12/2020 11:10

Just turned 2yo has bottle at bedtime, sinks 9oz of milk in less than two minutes then sleeps till morning. I’m not changing that until I have to 😂

xmas20 · 24/12/2020 11:34

Op, try to stick to free flow cups. The 360 ones aren't free flow.

I know you said this in your op but others ha e suggested non free flows so just be aware.

As your dd will be going on to cows milk you might find she'll take less than 8oz. I'd stick to your Tommy tippee and fill it with milk. Her food intake will increase and she'll naturally want less milk. X

@dementedpixie they look like a great option!!
