Potty training

I'm looking to start training my toddler DS. Please give me all your tips and product recommendations, Mumsnetters! Is just a cheap and cheery potty enough? Do I need one that goes on the toilet? Stand-alone? Help me please!

I have 3 cheap potties scattered at round the house, a small step used for the toilet and sink and a toilet seat that can sit on top of the toilet.

I’ve never forced mine to toilet train, it’s there when they are ready. I’ve have the potties about a year but DD 3 just decided she’s ready. She chooses what she wears, big girl knickers, pull up or nappy. The only time I don’t let her is if we have to do a long car journey or go somewhere with no toilets, then I will insist on a pull up.

If your doing it in winter, make sure your house is warm so they can run round in underwear. Lots of praise and high fives when they get it in the potty. Never tell them off for accidents.

Hi. I haven't started potty training yet but planning on doing so after Christmas. I've got a potty and step for the downstairs toilet and another for the bathroom upstairs. I assume it would be easier than trying to get through stair gates. I also got a seat for the toilet in case DS prefers that. If he does I'll get a second one for upstairs. I just got cheap ones from the supermarket. There was a choice of peppa pig or paw patrol so we went with paw patrol. I've also brought about 20 pairs of pants for DS.
Good luck with potty training 🤞
