Hi all DD had dry skin around her knees that have now developed into a red spotty rash (the skin is still dry) I've popped some coconut oil on it to help keep is moisturised. Does anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned?

If you have any concerns you should ring 111 as mumsnet cannot diagnose...
Now I've said that it looks like a normal baby rash to me in my non medical opinion. When my kids have had rashes like that the Dr has said just Keep an eye on it if it gets worse as long as it goes away when you press it iyswim. Could be skin irritation or a little normal virus, does it Go away when you push your finger over it?

SassyPants87 · 18/12/2020 20:39

Her rash is actually more red in real life than the picture

@JanewaysBun I'm going to call the doctors tomorrow morning but have just noticed it now and I'm a worrier. Yes the rash does disappear when I push my finger against her skin, also disappears when I roll a glass over it too

That s good, if she's well in herself I personally wouldn't sorry however I'm not looking at her or a doctor so this is just general musings.

My DD had one for a few weeks last year which i think was a little virus although she did have some steroid cream which cleared it up so could have been a bit of eczema. Both mine have had short term rashes too.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 18/12/2020 21:58

Good to hear it disappears when you rub against it. Is she well in herself? Does she have it on her back? It could be a viral rash. I remember DS getting a rash and I took him to the drs to be told it was viral and nothing to worry about.

TeddyBeans · 18/12/2020 22:00

Looks like a viral rash. My DS has had a few I'm his 2.5 years. Usually clears on its own in a few days but if you're concerned definitely speak to your doctor

Woahisme · 18/12/2020 22:08

Have you done the glass test? Just to be on the safe side. I'd get it looked at if I were you.

My son when he was a baby had a similar rash in his nappy area. Turned out it was thrush. God knows how.

Woahisme · 18/12/2020 22:09

Ah just read you've done the glass test.

I'm not sure where u live but my one took a reaction at 10 weeks after his 8 week vaccines.. it started on his legs then tummy then face.. he has taken the same reaction to his 16 week vaccines just under 2 weeks after as well... phoned the doctors the first time to be told viral and then spoke to the HV who said it is common due to the MMR and appears 1-2 weeks after.

SassyPants87 · 20/12/2020 09:37

@KLM19 she did have her jabs almost 2 weeks ago so that could explain it

The rash on her legs look like little white spots and is so dry! And today she's come up with this rash on her cheek too. Anyone had anything similar with their babies? Going to call the doctors first thing tomorrow morning

Echoing others, if you're worried, always seek medical attention.

However, as a non medical person, DD often gets little rashes. For the first few months it was really worrying, bit she's 4 we just slather her in Aveeno. She is a little eczema-y (not bad, just a bit) and I think often eczema presents as more of a rash in babies (rather than a plate of eczema that you may see on an adult).

Is it bumpy and dry?
