Bath products - when and what?

How old was your baby when you started using any kind of products in their bath? And is there a certain brand you would recommend?
Midwife was very big on just using water and no other products while baby is small but never actually gave advice as to when it was ok to start introducing things 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m assuming it’s just a personal choice rather than there being any proper guidelines? 🤔

You can start using unperfumed baby bath from about 4 to 6 weeks. I always used Johnson’s baby top to toe but I’ve also seen good reviews about Scrubbingtons products.

I assume the rule is - don't overdo it when they are nb as it dries out their skin and any brand baby cosmetics will be fine. As long as you don't use flash bathroom on the baby I'm sure it will be ok...

Oh and mine were both about a week - as soon as the poo explosions start you need soap!

We use child's farm products but my child has very very sensitive skin to products. Have tried all sorts (she's now nearly 4) and only aveiro, sanex and child's farm don't bring her out in a rash.

We started using them at about 6 months but then she didn't have a bath for months and months as she was in a hip harness.

@Fivemoreminutes1 Thank you 😊 I had bought Aveeno Baby to try first so I’ll start that in his next bath - he’s 6 weeks old.
@ramblingsonthego I have loads of Childs Farm stuff here too. It’s amazing! DH uses the baby moisturiser as it’s the only thing that doesn’t break his skin out!
@nevernotstruggling Haha, there won’t be any Flash Bathroom here! Although some of the poo explosions look they could have done with it 🙈

Even now with my 4 .5 yr old and 1.5 yr old we only use a bit of shampoo a couple of times a week and bubble bath as an occasional treat.

RWK29 · 18/12/2020 06:53

@Thatwentbadly Completely agree on minimal products 😊 just feel occasionally DS could do with a little shampoo 😊 sometimes he’s quite sicky lying down and his hair ends up getting it and feel it needs a bit more than water 😊

DS is 2 and like a pp we don’t use anything regularly. He has beautiful skin and hair and you can easily get poo and sick off with just water and a sponge. The only times we’ve used shampoo have been when he’s rubbed fish into his hair! He has a bath every night as part of his routine and I think if we were using products on him that regularly it would
dry his skin and hair out.

. The only times we’ve used shampoo have been when he’s rubbed fish into his hair!

I am laughing so hard!! Dd2 would have done that too

@harrietm1987 😂😂 that’s hilarious 😂 oh the things I’ve got to look forward to 🙈 completely agree about only using products when necessary 😊👍🏻

@RWK29 both my children have allergies, an NHS lactation consultant and midwife said had never seen a baby vomit as much as DD2 managed in each go. Luckily the both had very little hair so water was enough.

RWK29 · 19/12/2020 12:30

@Thatwentbadly Oh the poor wee thing 😓 hopefully the allergies are more under control now 🤞🏼 DS is only 6 weeks but has quite a think head of hair. We just use water to clean him off but I think he could do with a little shampoo even once every couple of weeks or so just to make sure it’s all out x
