DD will be 8 soon. I want to build a routine that she is responsible for certain tasks around the house. What's appropriate for that age in your experience?

One of mine is 8 and I really want him to feel competent and confident with this stuff, luckily he's a keen bean so does the following:

Makes bed everyday
Opens curtains
Tidies bedroom daily

Puts packed lunch together (I make sandwiches)
Gets own breakfast
Puts dishes in the sink

Puts laundry away (sometimes needs help with this)
Makes sure all dirty clothes go in laundry basket
Helps sort laundry into lights, darks whites in prep for being able to put a wash on Grin

Wipes and lays table for meals
Gets drinks for everyone at mealtimes
sweeps up after meals
Occasionally hoovers

Tidies house on regularly (does this without asking as enjoys it)

Helps put shopping away
Helps meal plan

Would be interesting to see what others do. I'm really waiting for the day he can clean the loo independently...

I'm also curious at what age children start cutting their own nails.

Can I adopt him? He sounds amazing! Grin

When I was 8 I would do the dishes and change the bedding on my bed. I think I did polishing for a bit of pocket money too.

Make beds.
Washing the plates and cup and cutlery,
Laying table
Sweeping/dusting stairs.
Sweep dust mop hall ways/laminate floors.
Clean hand basin.
Peeling veg.
Dust skiting boards and windowsills.

And pretty much waht the above says.

Tidies bedroom once a week
Wipes down surfaces in bedroom once a week
Sorts out laundry... Might need help with some things onto hangers.
Dirty clothes where they need to be
Hoovers every 3 weeks.... Alternates with sibling & Dad.
Sets table on a thursday including making drinks
Occasionally sweeps and mops playroom (badly)
Occasionally helps me cook or bake or makes own sandwiches... But I don't put this as a chore
