When is the right time to move baby to cot?

My DS is 6 months now and has been rolling onto his belly to sleep during the night for approx a month since he learned how to roll back and forward and has started crawling. I’ve tried moving him onto his back during the night but he just goes right back to his belly!

He is still in his Snuzpod with the sides up and his head isn’t touching the top yet but he does kind of sleep sideways so his head is on the mesh part.

We have just had his cot delivered so will be building it soon, but still in our room for now as I’m just not ready for him to go to his own room! I’m also sad for him to leave being right next to me as much as I’d love to share the night wake ups (no feeds) Grin

I suppose I’m just wondering when people moved their baby out of the Snuzpod into a cot and how they decided baby needed the move?

They aren't really designed for when a baby can roll over - definitely not if they can sit up unaided and I wouldn't trust it if you are at crawling stage already

@ivfbeenbusy Thank you I did think it was maybe time but I hadn’t thought about him sitting up, he is basically commando crawling but he is starting to put his knees up and throw himself forward! And he’s starting to sit a bit too, can’t pull himself up to sit yet but I don’t think it’ll be too long so I think it does sound like he’s needing the cot.

We moved DD when she was almost 6 months. Her rolling onto her front was the motivator - also we kept waking her up in her Next2Me, she stirred whenever we made any kind of movement!

It took a week or so for her to adapt to being in a big cot but it's loads better for her. She has space to roll onto her tummy (she's always put down on her back) and she loves playing in there during the day too.

@LikeTheOceansWeRise I think that we may be waking him too! But yes I think the fact he’s moving so much now he needs to go into it, we also put him on his back but he moves very quickly lol

Can I ask what you did with her to help her adjust? I’m thinking just trying to calm him without taking him out of it will be best but that’s easier said than done when we don’t know what he’ll be like yet! And would you recommend just letting him play in it during the day? He doesn’t in his Snuzpod anymore but I think that’s because he doesn’t have the room!

We let her hang out in there during the day and that definitely got her a bit used to it. She was fed to sleep back then, so we put her down asleep, and then she'd wake up in a big cot and freak out Confused poor love. We didn't really do much to help the transition, we just endured a weeks worth of crap sleep, where she'd wake every few hours or more, and eventually she settled into it. This was a lot easier as she was still in our room! It was 50/50 whether she'd be settled back to sleep in the actual cot, but worth trying!

I think one of the reasons she woke so often is because she was cold. Her Next2Me was so cosy and suddenly she was in a big cot with slats, and it coincided with the start of winter. We dressed her in warmer pj's and now keep the heating on a higher setting overnight.

Good luck!!! I'm sure he will be rolling around happily in his big cot in no time 😊

@LikeTheOceansWeRise yeah we’re currently the same, sometimes he’ll stay awake after his bottle and I can get him to sleep after that but a lot of the time he falls asleep with the bottle and you know what I’ve never thought about the waking in the bed alone being the reason he will unsettle when he wakes at first! No wonder they need some comfort poor things Shock

So yes I think we’re going to be the same with him at first Confused I’ll keep the warmer pjs in mind in case he wakes a lot

Thank you for your help! Fingers crossed Smile
