Overnight nappies that don't leak...do they exist?!

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 08:37

For the last few weeks my lb has been waking up in the early hours completely wet, needing a full costume change, sheet change, the works. I feel so bad as he'd be sleeping quite well (touch wood!) if it wasn't for this. Getting changed at that time really awakens him and then it takes such a long time to get him back to sleep again.
I've tried going up a nappy size, pull up pants, an extra bamboo pad inside the disposable and different brands (albeit all budget Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons) and nothing works. They all last from his last nappy change with his dream feed at 10pm until 2am.
We use cloth pockets during the day which work great and do have bamboozles/motherease wraps for night but they are so bulky and I'd like the option of a failsafe disposable (if that exists!).

Has anyone got any tips or brands I should try please?

We use the pampers pull ups overnight. Aldi for daytime. They are pricier but in my experience they're the best and as we only use one a night we don't need to buy them very often

Ohalrightthen · 11/12/2020 09:01

We do cloth pockets in the day and Little Lamb all in ones with a wrap overnight and have never had a leak. The bulk isn't a problem, just go up a size in sleep suits if needs be! You're unlikely to find a disposable as good as a cloth nappy for preventing nighttime leaks.

Disappointedkoala · 11/12/2020 09:05

I found going up a size, putting on back to front and making sure the vest/sleep suit wasn't too tight all helped.

Only ones that work for us are Sainsburys plus range only £3 a packet

We use Pampers nappy pants for night time and go a size bigger. We’ve used these from about 12 months and DD hasn’t needed a nappy change or woken up wet (she can go about 12 hours in Pampers)

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 09:58

Thanks so much everyone, I'll give these suggestions a go. I think his wee bodysuits are maybe a little too tight as well, even though I've just bought the next size up, I'll go up another as he is quite long.
@Ohalrightthen do you find the little lambs are completely sodden after a full night? The bamboozles were and I just worried that he might feel the wetness as they were so drenched. I did put a fleece liner in and tbf he didn't wake up due to being wet, I was just so surprised by how heavy it was! Do you leave the LL on for a full overnight?

Ohalrightthen · 11/12/2020 10:00

How old is he? DD always had v wet nappies when she was still feeding overnight, but the fleece liner meant she herself wasn't ever really wet. Now we've nightweaned the nappies are wet but not sodden. After about 6m we never changed overnight unless she'd done a poo.

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 10:07

He's 5.5 months. It probably doesn't help as he's being a bit funny with his milk atm and has most of his intake late afternoon/before bed. That's good to know re. nightweaning as I think he'll be dropping his 5am feed soon. What boosters do you use? I put a 3 layer LL in last time but will maybe double it over at the front tonight, and defos buying bigger vests today too!

KatherineOfGaunt · 11/12/2020 10:09

We use disposables at night as he would just soak the cloth nappies unless changed halfway through the night, even with a booster.

Ohalrightthen · 11/12/2020 10:09

I just use a LL all-in-one size 2, a fleece liner and a wrap. I used to use a Littlez & Bloom booster as those are the pockets i use but they're a bit big and she looked ridiculous.

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 10:18

@Ohalrightthen yes, my dh put a little bloomz one in, but didn't tuck it all in properly so it was just a nightmare come morning! Thanks, I'll make some adjustments to my boosters and see how I go.

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 10:20

@katherineOfGaunt that's interesting to know, I was really hoping that doesn't happen, but will persevere a bit more. What disposables have worked for you out of interest please?

Definitely look into cloth nappies - there is a huge secondhand market. You'll be able to get some good priced very absorbent night nappies. Join some FB selling groups

MarahCarey · 11/12/2020 10:49

My 5 month old wears Mother ease uno stay dry and at night I use 2 booster inserts. We haven't changed a night time nappy since he was 3 months old.

Caspianberg · 11/12/2020 11:00

We use the bamboozle with extra insert. Fleece liner. He’s usually in it from 8pm-7am. It’s super full by morning, but very rarely leaks ( and if so just tiny bit starting on vest). He still feeds about 4 times during that time

lemorella · 11/12/2020 11:01

Perhaps go up a nappy size. I also second pull ups for night time. We rate Tesco and pampers.

Also if you use a sleep/gro bag for night time it should contain any leaks so you only have to do a sleep suit and sleep bag change.

I have seen waterproof nappy pants which go over a bedtime nappy online but I'm a worrier about overheating baby so wouldn't use them as it's another layer.

SpamIAm · 11/12/2020 11:04

Tesco and pampers have both been good for us - the extra dry versions. Also if his vests are too tight that'll cause problems.

skkyelark · 11/12/2020 11:19

If you haven't already, try vest extenders, especially if he's a long, thin baby. Then you don't need to use a vest that's falling off his shoulders to get the length.

Our overnight bamboozles can be really sodden, but with the fleece, it doesn't seem to bother my wee girl. If you need extra boosting, try putting the booster between the wrap and the nappy, rather than in the nappy. It can be easier to fit that way. Hemp boosters are supposed to be most absorbent for their size, but we just use the bamboo ones we have, as baby doesn't seem bothered (and she's long and thin, so if the pyjamas are long enough, there's plenty of space for the big night nappy).

onedream · 11/12/2020 12:22

@Daff59 we use motherease bamboo sandys with the stay dry sandys liner and wrap, I have 6 nappies + liners in size Large which we rotate for night since my lo was around 5 months and we still use the same nappies now and he is 20 months, never had a leak, not on the last popper yet so I think they will last until potty training. Same lovely and soft condition as the day I bought them.

peboh · 11/12/2020 12:23

I've always used Asda's nappies, and only ever had perhaps 4 leaks with my dd overnight.

Megan2018 · 11/12/2020 12:26

Stick with your cloth and just get vest extenders. As long as the cloth isn’t leaking it doesn’t matter how wet it gets.
We use Bamboozles and although saturated they don’t leak.

I use Aldi premium disposables on odd occasions and they don’t leak for us but don’t last for 12hrs like a Bamboozle can

toddlingthroughtoddlerhood · 11/12/2020 12:27

We use a little lamb with the popper in pad it came with, no extra booster and then a tots bots wrap. He does 7-7 in these and although they are sodden it doesn't seem to bother him. He is 2 and we have used these for the last year. Had a couple of minor leg hole leaks in this time. Really rate them!

Grittlelayrabbit · 11/12/2020 12:28

I cured this by going up a size in the nappy, and putting them in poppered vests to hold the nappy close to the skin, so the wee didn’t run over the skin and out the top. The crucial bit is to make sure his willy is touching the nappy so it catches the wee.

Daff59 · 11/12/2020 13:15

This is all so useful, thanks so much everyone!
@skkyelark I've never heard of putting the booster between wrap and nappy, thankyou I'll give it a go tonight :)

Omg I could have wrote this myself. I've had this same problem for the last 4 months it's been hell. I've tried absolutely everything. Every brand. Size up size down. Pants not pants. Cloth not cloth. Boosters not boosters. Back to front. Double up. Sanitary towels you name it. Every night for 4 months we would have to change his bag. Vest baby bro and bottom sheet in the early hours. One day a few weeks ago I went in to asda and saw advertised pampers active fit which are new and my god what a difference. He's dry more than he is wet it's great. He's currently on size 4 normal nappies but these active fit in size 5 for bed. Bit pricy but I just use them for bed. Hope that helps @Daff59
