I would love a sibling for my DS, in 3-4 yrs time. I can't help but wonder, though, with the long history of heart disease & related deaths on paternal side & cancer on maternal side (mine) & medical condiction that runs in DP's side (girls are carriers, boys are affected) whether it'll be the right choice...umm

Many of these genetic predispositions can be neutralized by diet and lifestyle choices. If you make sure your children eat healthy, low fat diets and that no one in the household smokes, you are already way ahead of things. Give your children a multi-vitamin and be extra vigilant about diet and exercise. No different than how someone with pale skin should take extra care in the sun. Presumably some genetic testing can also be done to make yourselves aware of what conditions you need to be aware of and take extra steps for. Good luck.
