Little Lamb Nappies - Washing

Hi all,

I've finally bitten the bullet and done 24 hours in reusables with my LO (3.5 months). However, it's brought up a few questions and I would be grateful for any answers!

I am using LL Bamboo 2-parters with the fleece liner:

  1. Honestly, how do you get the poo off the fleecy liners pre-washing?! Maybe because my baby is formula-fed, that poop just sticks when I flush it as per instructions!
  1. Do you keep the nappies in the mesh bag to wash? (Pretty sure this is a yes).
  1. Am I meant to keep all the parts - nappy, liner, booster - separate when washing or put the nappy back together before washing?

TIA! Smile

Hi, I don't have this sort of nappy, but I thought you might get more advice on FB group "cloth nappies UK".

Fwiw, I never used to get much poo off the liner, I always use the washing machine to do a rinse or a prewash before the main wash to get it off with milk poo. Once you are on solid food you do need to get it off, I moved to using disposable liners then. Keep all parts seperate for washing I expect, put back together once dry. I don't put my nappies in a bag to wash...but not to say you shouldn't.

Thanks @Keha, a pre-wash is a good idea!

I also don't have this exact brand, but a very similar one.

  1. Like Keha said, until you start weaning, no need to rinse the poo, just chuck it all in. We also do a rinse before the wash (also gets the worst of the wee out, so the main wash water is cleaner).

  2. I don't know exactly what bag you have, but most mesh nappy bags are designed so you can toss the whole bag in the washing machine and the nappies will come out during the wash to get properly clean.

  3. Yes, wash as separate parts, reassemble when dry. They'll get cleaner (and dry faster) that way.

And yes, lots of good advice groups on FB if something's not quite working.

Thank you @skkyelark Grin

They appear to have stayed in the bag... now in the dryer, so time will tell if they've washed properly!

Honestly Clean Cloth nappies (down under) it's the 💩 for a sure fire way to clean nappies. I didn't have very good luck with little lambs or the nappy ladies instructions, rashes, stains and smells eventually 🤢

I found stuff didn't wash that well in a big closed bag

Re-assemble when clean and dry.

Chichz · 07/12/2020 22:44

@olderthanyouthink Is that a brand?

If the bag has a drawstring top at all it's worth making sure it's fully open so they can come out in the wash. When you flush the liner are you literally holding the liner in the toilet and swirling it in the flushing water?it's not fun but I find that's best (easier once they're on solids and it just rolls off!)

olderthanyouthink · 07/12/2020 23:09

Sorry it's a Facebook group

olderthanyouthink · 07/12/2020 23:10

Oh and we have a bidet attachment on out toilet to blast poo off, we didn't get plopable poo till she was using the potty a lot Hmm

WinWinnieTheWay · 07/12/2020 23:15

From memory I would

Rinse off the liners by hand.

Put the nappies on a 14 minute fast wash, cold without detergent.

Then add towels and sheets and wash at 60.

In winter I would then put them in the tumble drier to get them steaming before drying them on the horse.

In summer they would go on the line.

Thanks everyone!

I need to buy some more nappies to get a full complement, but was just giving it a trial run. They seem to fit so much nicer than disposables Smile.

I've been using reusable for my 11mo since birth. I've only recently started flooding the poos as they now have more bits in it Blush.
Pre-weaning I just dry pailed everything, once in machine I will do a cold rinse with no powder then main wash (long hot wash) with powder and miofresh.
I don't soak and don't use mesh bags

Search for the two 'the nappy lady' groups on Facebook. So many knowledgable users on there. There's a support group and a selling page, both are good.
Can't help with the mesh bag question but pre weaning just throw them in the wash. As others have said, do a cold rinse before your main wash. Make sure it's cold though as hot water can set the poop stains in! All the parts can go in the wash together. Make sure you're drying them right too! Don't put any parts on the radiator, don't put wraps in the dryer and only put the nappies in a dryer if it's a low heat!

If you're looking at other nappies I personally recommend baba and boo pocket nappies for day use.

I use these for my now toddler, (the bigger size). Exactly the same as you, with the fleece liners. Tbh, getting the poo off is gross. I rinse them in the loo. I keep my loo super clean so it is less gross.

I put the mesh bag in the machine, I then turn the bag inside out.

To wash, I separate all the parts, then fold the velcro side tabs over on themselves so they don't catch on anything in the machine.

I'd really recommend the Little Lambs pocket nappies too. Good for daytime out and about (maybe not right now obviously).

I love Little Lambs, but I hate their wraps. I use some other brands. Can look them up if you like.

Definitely look up Clean Cloth Nappies - Facebook or their website. I found I got smells and stains with advice from the Nappy Lady.

  1. Don’t need to rinse poo until you wean so just throw it all in the washing machine.
  1. Take them out of the mesh bag and don’t put anything bigger than a tea towel in to bulk out the load. Putting them in with towels and big sheets means that they get wrapped up and won’t get washed properly.
  1. Separate out.

I prewash every day on a 45 minute cycle at 60 with Vanish and then a long cycle every three to four days at 40. Anything less and I was getting stained nappies. Also be careful putting things in the tumble dryer. Definitely no wraps and only low heat for anything else.
