Does anyone else struggle with the long afternoon stretch?

DS is eight months old and on two naps a day. I took him for a walk from 1.30-3.30 and he slept for most of it. We got home, he had some milk and I’ve been trying to keep him entertained ever since - he’s in a real moany mood and he doesn’t normally go up until 6.30pm for milk and bed. Does anyone else find the hours between 3.30-6.30pm can sometimes pass so unbelievably slowly? Sorry to say but I’m counting down the minutes until bedtime.

OP you're definitely not alone! At that age i honestly couldn't wait to start the bedtime routineGrin it's getting much easier now DD is 1 and walking around

I could have written this myself😂. DS is 8.5 months and due to the school pick up he is always awake or woken up by 2.30. He then won’t nap again and is often miserable and wants to be held until bed time around 6.30. We do get the odd day where he is ok but I’m hoping in a few weeks he will tolerate being awake for the longer stretch a bit better 🤞

Yep, they are the longest hours ever! Sometimes I’ll take my 7 month old for another walk or let her watch a bit of tv in her bouncer to get through it. Other times we’ll go for a drive or a quick trip to the shops to look at things in her sling. Only thing is that sometimes she’ll fall asleep in the car or buggy which then pushes bedtime out to even later

My 8 month old will not go down for her morning nap so it’s going to be a long day 😭

I used to put more 4 on and play on the floor, i still know the 2015 weekly schedule by heart!

Ha ha yes, it’s not ideal when this happens!

Could you put the baby for a nap at home during the time so you get a break and then when baby wakes, take him for a walk (so baby wont sleep as it is close to the nap it already had). Push on swings etc. That helps break the day for us. I usually take the baby to the park and swings once in morning and once in afternoon if weather is nice....but I also have 2 other dc and a dog who help break up the day for me and keep it busy lol. But yes, sometimes I can feel an hour before bed time where baby is playing and im like omg when is it bed time?!

Popgoesthebubble · 08/12/2020 00:23

Yes, but my little one is older, so it's only 1 nap a day. my afternoon stretch is usually from about 1.30-7.30. yaaaawns.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/12/2020 08:58

We go for a walk at 4ish to break it up!

My nearly 2 year old goes from 1.30 til 8pm now. It's soooooo long some days. We try and get outside but it was dark here by 3.30pm at the moment and we always have a really long lunch. At this age it's easier to get on with stuff like cleaning and he will entertain himself for a bit but oh how I miss the baby days when he would only be awake for an hour at a time 😂😂

Aria999 · 08/12/2020 12:41

Yes. It's ok if she's in a good mood but the long shouty afternoon with nowhere to go due to covid is pretty dismal. With DS1 I had a lovely bunch of friends also on mat leave so we often just met for spontaneous coffee but then I emigrated 🤦‍♀️
