Teething hell - help!

LO is almost 4 months and for the past 10 days has gone from sleeping all night to waking at 2am and not being able to settle back. We thought it was wind or a developmental leap
however her cheeks are bright red, she is dribbling everywhere and chewing the life out of her hands so assuming it’s the start of teeth. Have tried all the powders, gels etc but all homeopathic so doing sod all. Calpol has limited help. She chews the tethers in the day but won’t at night. The only slight thing that helps is me massaging her cheeks.
Does anyone have any bright ideas on what next? We have ordered ibuprofen to try and she can’t have anything with lidocaine in til 5 months so no anbesol etc 😫

Hi, my baby is almost 16 weeks and it looks like her bottom front teeth could be coming any day now. We've had a bit if success with using calpol and Ashton and Parsons powder at the same time and she has a plastic teether that can be cooled in the fridge. The most effective thing though has been carrying her in the tiger in the tree hold and letting her chomp down on mine or her dad's hand. I think being on her front takes the pressure off her gums a bit.

Might be teething but my DD also had a very dribbly chewy stage then and no teeth until 8 months old. Also yes sleep goes to pot at 4 months. If you look at the gums you should be able to see if a tooth is imminent, they get harder, change colour.

Bonjela worked well for my teething DC. As of two months.

Hi, sorry your struggling. It could also be 4m sleep regression I'm afraid. My little one was like that at 4m. Up every 2 hours. We got back to normal routine for a month and now she's teething again. Nightmare

Thanks all - will try anything at this point!

Bonjela shouldn’t be given until a baby is six months, according to the instructions on the packet.

I'm sure ibuprofen helped our little boy and the Ashton's and parsons powder and the ambesol liquid but think he was over 4 months...also I'm sure the Ashton's and parsons pen thing is ment to be good xx

This isnt necessarily teething. My son has been dribbling like a tap and chewing everything in sight since about that age, and is still doing at 8 months old. He doesnt have any teeth.

As pp says, may be the 4 month sleep regression. There isnt really much you can do but wait it out.

MonkeyBeard · 06/12/2020 20:56

As PP say, teething may not be the answer.

Or it may, in which case ibuprofen etc will hopefully help. It's worth bearing in mind that the first teeth might be the worst though - many babies have never felt discomfort before - and so could just need to be ridden out. Sorry!
