Baby led weaning help

Hi everyone,

My little boy will be 6 month at the end of January so I’m just wanting to do a bit of research as I’m wanting to do Baby led weaning but I don’t know a lot! (First time mum).

Does anyone have any books or pages to follow that youd recommend? Or YouTube channels, anything really!

I’ve tried google but it’s all a bit confusing, my baby is suspected CMPA and has bad reflux to make things a little more awkward so not sure if this has an impact.

I have a 4 month old and I'll be doing the NCT online weaning course soon as I haven't a clue. It's only 2 hours so a good place to start then I can research a bit more after that.

I follow the nutritionist on Insta who wrote Joe Wicks’ baby led weaning book. I also bought Rapley’s baby led weaning books (including the one with family style recipes). I’d suggest investing in the biggest splash mat you can afford, good quality suction plates (in my experience Bamboo Bamboo are the best but expensive and fiddly to maintain), and use a catch it bib and a coverall bib together as the mess is horrendous. My DS is 12 months now but in the summer after when we started, I used to set his highchair up outside so I could just hose him and everything else down lol.

Also my baby has relux too so I'm hoping weaning will improve it one day.

I used the baby led weaning app, that it's name. Gave advice in regards to how to start, the foods to start with. For instance started with vegetables and one at a time, which makes it easier to identify if they have a reaction to food. Then you gradually build up. It gives a timetable and advice on how to prep food. Long term its been great for receipes. My dd loved the butternut squash soup.

The baby led weaning book was really helpful, though it was a long time ago now, so if there's an app, then great, try that too.

Pinterest is great for recipe ideas if you need help coming up with foods for when you aren't just offering exactly what you're eating (you're having a takeaway or making a spicy meal). Or when you need to pack anything to take with you for a day out.

Otherwise, it's just about figuring out how to adapt what you make normal to be easy for baby to eat - obviously dairy free and as much as possible in fist sized pieces that are easy to pick up or things that can be dipped (think soup but with toast fingers, etc.).

Blw was absolutely disastrous for our ds with reflux. Every time he gagged he would vomit, which was painful for him. It very quickly led to him associating food with pain and he developed huge issues around food.

6 years on and he's still under a myriad of consultants due to his massively restricted eating Xmas Hmm
