Slings/carriers

I'm after a sling or carrier that is easy to get a 6 week old baby into from the car for school pick ups. Obviously, sling libraries are a thing of the past 🙄 have tried baby bjorn and manduca and not a fan of either. Welcoming all suggestions!

What did you not like about the ones that you have tried? There are online sling libraries and the sling library in my area is in operation (tier 3).

They were quite clunky to use and not comfortable (my back hurt, for instance). Ideally I want one I can put on before driving to school (under my coat) and then put DD in it, rather than have to put her in first and then put the straps over my shoulders and clip around the back after.

Are the libraries operating? Tbh I'd just assumed they weren't, so I'll Google my area - fingers crossed!

I found a close caboo easy to put on/put baby in and comfy at that age. A bit like a wrap sling but much more straightforward to to put on.

mindutopia · 04/12/2020 12:35

A cheap stretchy wrap would be your best bet. You'll likely only use it until about 4-5 months (as then baby is too heavy and you'll need a more supportive fabric), so I wouldn't break the bank buying a fancy one. Possibly secondhand if still in good shape. A close caboo is one option (though it's partly pre-tied and I didn't really like that) or a moby wrap or something similar.

Bippitybop · 04/12/2020 12:38

Close caboo is good for having on already. I liked that at first and then absolutely loved my boba soft structured carrier. It had a snap in cushion thing so you could use it from newborn I think.

I used to do this with a manducca. If the slings you have tried are hurting your back with a 6 week old in it sounds like they weren’t fastened tight enough. It maybe worth trying some on and posting some photos on a sling Facebook group so people can advise you about how to adjust the sling so it feels more comfortable.

The close caboo is easy for putting on but some people find them tricky as their baby gets heavier.

Thanks all - I'll have a Google of those ones when I'm up all night with baby tonight - may as well make the lostkf those hours, right!

We had the Close Caboo but DH hated it and wanted something with buckles. Currently using the Ergobsby Embrace which is great, a compromise of stretchy for a newborn but easy to put on with buckles.

Caspianberg · 04/12/2020 16:50

Ergo embrace another recommendation as above. Still find it was comfier with 7 month old than the ergo omni which I find too bulky

AuroraBor · 04/12/2020 17:13

Babybjorn Move. It unclips at the front so very easy to put baby in and out and you don't have to take the whole carrier off. It's also made for, well, moving so is much kinder for your back. It's less ergonomic for baby's hips than wide carriers would be but if you're worried about that you can easily fix it with a scarf, there are videos online how to do it.

Mamaruga zensling. Absolutely loved it. It’s soft fabric with buckles so the best of both worlds for me. I carried my DD from 6 ish weeks to over one with it. Just loved it loved it.

Bippitybop · 04/12/2020 19:02

Ah KT I was trying to remember the name of that one - that’s the one I really wanted! Heard great things about it , just couldn’t afford it at the time!

KTD27 · 04/12/2020 19:13

@Bippitybop I borrowed mine from the sling library and then got a second hand one off eBay for about £30. Worth that and then some id say! Have handed mine on and it’s been handed on again so lasted for ages now!

We have an infantino flip, which was cheap as we didn't plan to use it often. DD used to nap in it while we took the dog for walks in woodlands etc.. I also wear it when carrying her in my arms sometimes and it doesn't really get in the way.

She's now 12 months and I use it fairly often if I have lots to carry when taking her to the car, or to nip put of the car to the shop for a few minutes. We have done a few walks in it lately, but haven't braved putting her on our backs yet which would be much less heavy! Anyway, I definitely recommend it for the price!

We used Amawrap. Cheap and comfortable for us both. I was lucky to have a friend show me how to use it but the video on their website was good for this, and only took a few times to get use to it then it was really easy.
