What to do at night re temperature

Hi

Might be a silly question and I am over thinking it. But as it’s really cold now at night, I’m worried my 6 month old is chilly.

He goes to sleep in a baby grow and 2.5 tog sleep sack. But between 7-10pm the central heating is on and I’m worried he’s too warm, then it goes off until 6am and I’m worried he’s too cold?

What do people do? Do you leave central heating on low level all night? Thanks

Isn't there a thermostat on the room radiator? Set that to comfortable temperature for when the heating is on.
When the heating is off- they'll wake and cry if they're cold.

If he's cold, he'll let you know

He'll let you know if he's cold. Otherwise get a room thermometer (our very basic baby monitor had one), so you can check the temp during the night when you/he wakes up. This will give you an idea of overnight temps. More than likely he's absolutely fine as long as dressed properly for the sleeping bag.

I am in exactly the same boat OP. I have a six month old DD and I’ve just put her into her own room which is north facing and chilly.

We usually have our heating off by 9 pm and it doesn’t come back on until 7 am. I’ve decided to time it to come on at 10.30 pm for half an hour and again at 2.30 am to see if that keeps her nice and cosy. I’ll also get some thermal liners for her curtains as well I think.

Is baby in your room? I have an electric heater which I whack on when we wake for night feeds and turn it off before we go back to sleep. It takes the chill off. We also have a Hive so if it’s really cold, I can put the heating on for an hour boost from my phone.

I just have the heating on low overnight. With us wfh it’s on all day so it doesn’t cost much more to keep the temperature the same overnight. We do turn it down in our room though so we aren’t too hot overnight

If they're too cold they will wake up and let you know. DC's are now 2 and 4. When they were tiny they slept with us; if I was cold I assumed they were too. You say you sleep separately; can you match layers with them?

We have the thermostat set to 15 overnight (7.30-7), it rarely comes on.

I have a Groegg in ds room and dress him according to that. The central heating is set with a thermostat and the radiator in his room is on a low heat, so when heating comes on his room isn’t too hot but it takes the chill away.

If unsure then err on the side of caution and go with less ..... a chilly baby will wake and let you know they’re cold whereas and overheated baby unfortunately may not.
