Good Sleeper - what to expect?

Before you carry on reading - just to say that I am really aware that babies generally sleep poorly at first (my DD1 didn't sleep through until she was 14 months old) and I don't want to come across as a "smug mum" or anything like that. With my first if anyone told me about how well their baby slept I'd want to throttle them.

My DD2 is now 12 weeks old and I was fully psyched up and prepared for the frequent wakings/cluster feeds/hours of screaming etc. Etc. Etc. And SOMEHOW since she was 5 weeks old she has consistently been an absolutely amazing sleeper! I thought babies like this were a mythical legend. I change and feed her, put her in the crib in her sleeping bag, dummy in and white noise on and let her chill there whilst I sort out DD1s bedtime, and within an hour or so she goes to sleep - before that she jus lays there really chilled out and I might have to replace the dummy occasionally but she's fine.
She then 9 times out of 10 fully sleeps until 4 or 5am the next morning when I then feed her laying down and we Co sleep the rest of the morning.

So my question is, is this too good to be true? Is it all going to change with the 4 month sleep regression?

I do hear of other people's stories - slept through since 9 weeks old/16 weeks old etc. And always thought how does that happen?

I know no one can tell me for definite haha but just want to hear some other peoples stories - tell me your good sleep stories or good sleeper turned bad stories 😅

We had a great sleeper from day one, first night at the hospital i had yo wake her at 10 for a feed and then slept until 4, vy 8 weeks the middle of the night one went and by 16 weeks the 10 pm had gone.

Unfortunately she hasn't slept since around 14 months....she's 21 months now Confused

All caused by teeth, colds, regressions, developmental stuff. We had our first good night in weeks and weeks last night.

Good luck, enjoy all the sleep you can right now Grin

Apologies for sleep deprived spelling mistakes!

ApocalypseNowt · 30/11/2020 17:27

DD1 was a fab sleeper. We had a few blips but usually down to teething or illness. She has continued to be a good sleeper (she's now 9). She kept on having a nap until the summer before she started school! Grin

DD2 not so much....

DD was a great newborn, slept through from early on. Hit the 4 month sleep regression and it all went wrong until about 18 months. She's generally ok now but things like the clocks changing take weeks to get over!

DS is 7 months and a great night time sleeper - self settles and does 11hours+ Has been like this since about 4.5 months. Did 8 hour stretches from 12 weeks or so. 4 month sleep regression didn’t really have an impact, but I’m sure one will further down the line so making the most of it while I can!

Day time naps are a different story and he did resist them for ages. We’ve worked on it over the last 4 weeks and they’ve been much better.

Thankyou all for replies so far!! I guess anything can happen! I will enjoy the sleep now whilst it lasts.... 😅

Both my 2 were epic sleepers - DD2 particularly. They still need a lot of sleep now they are older, they get super cranky if they stay up late. Nothing I did, just how they are

MrFlibblesEyes · 30/11/2020 20:19

Ds has been sleeping through since 11 weeks (well was doing 10pm-6am at that point) and we gradually brought his bedtime forward over the next month or so until he was doing 7pm-6am. His 4 month regression only lasted about 4 days and there have only been the odd blips since like when he learnt to stand in his cot but hadn't worked out how to get back down 😬 (that only lasted a couple of days too)

He's 13 months now and is still managing to sleep like a log despite colds and teething. For ages I kept saying to myself 'it might all change' but tbh Ive gotten really complacent about it now. I'm sure at some point it will turn around to bite me in the ass and he will be a nightmare toddler who won't stay in his bed.....

DS is 18 and has been a brilliant sleeper from birth. I remember taking him to DMs on Christmas Day when he was 10 weeks old and he napped perfectly in the car on the way, for 2 1/2 hours at lunch time and then in the car again on the way home! He slept from 7pm to 11pm, had a dream feed, then back to sleep after the feed until 6:30am from about 8 weeks old. We dropped the dream feed at about 5 months. He also slept very deeply , nothing woke him up. I just didn’t mention it when out and about with mum friends. DD was a different baby....

With my first, we had regular 6-7hr stretches from about 6w until the 4m regression. Apart from the odd good free weeks, it took her until gone 3 before she slept that well again. Enjoy the good sleep whilst it lasts, and maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.

October89 · 01/12/2020 17:50

My dd is also a great sleeper and always has been. She's 5 months old and has been sleeping about 10 hours interrupted since 6 weeks. I've had so many people say that the 4 month sleep regression will ruin it but she didn't seem to go through that!

Newmum2020F · 01/12/2020 17:58

My baby is 3 months old and I've had the exact same thing but I don't want to jinx it enjoy it while you can.

CescaNicole · 01/12/2020 21:05

Haha this is it! If your baby doesn't sleep you spend all your time worrying about it and wishing for some sleep, and if they do sleep you spend all your time worrying you will jinx it or if it's too good to be true 😅
