Velcro babies- do they naturally detach?

DD2 is very young- just over 3weeks old but she is far more attached than my first was. Will only sleep on someone and perm needs to be held- I’m using the sling to enable me to entertain her sister. Do “Velcro” babies naturally detach? Should I continue trying to get her to nap in her Moses basket- however fruitless it seems currently?

She's only 3 weeks so I'd expect her to be pretty attached in all honesty.
I wouldn't worry too much right now about getting her to sleep in a Moses basket by herself for naps.

Yes, they do. Might take a few months though. Until you’ve had a Velcro baby, you have no idea how impossible it is to get them in a cot. I swear mine would wake up and cry if i even thought about putting him in a cot.

Thanks, I fully appreciate it’s early days, I just don’t want to be get to a stage where I can’t put down my 6 month old etc

Mine started to detach at around 4 months with a bit of encouragement and has had all her sleeps in a cot from 5 months. When she was born she had to be held up high and in constant motion. She lived in the sling for the first couple of months and then in my arms after that, but I could never stay still. Bouncing on a yoga ball saved my back and pelvic floor!

It was pretty awful tbh - I felt very trapped. I can't imagine how it would be looking after a toddler as well.

I had one of these! Something just changed around 7 weeks and she started to sleep in her next to me crib at night, nothing I tried before that point worked, I think she just wasn't ready. She has slept quite happily in there at night since. Daytime naps on the other hand... i got her to successfully nap in her crib for the first time today, she's 7 months... I used the sling alot when she was small!

Mine was a Velcro baby until about 9 months then suddenly wanted all naps and an uninterrupted 12 hours at night all by herself, we did sling, pram, car journey and cuddle naps before that. Was tough but now she is an ace sleeper so happy overall. Yours might be more trainable than mine though, mine definitely trained me Grin

My daughter was exactly the same and by 6 months old she started napping in her cot which gave me alot more freedom and flexibility. We still struggle with night time wakings but it had eased for us by 6 months because they are also interested in toys and can sit and play or go in a jumperoo etc

Not what you want to hear but my velcro baby is 10 and still comes into my bed halfway through the night! We both sleep better next to each other, no point in fighting the natural bond!

My eldest was an absolute nightmare baby in terms of being stuck to me constantly. Breastfeeding constantly and would not sleep in a cot or Moses basket.

We ended up co-sleeping and stopped when he was about 16 months and he went straight into a toddler bed. He is my only child who never ever got into our bed at night in 12yrs even when he's ill or nightmares he would stay in his room, and had been totally independent for years

My others would sleep on their own and are now older but constantly bed hopping at night.

I truly believe you should give the children the security they need especially under 2's
