Six week old eyes wander and not focusing or smiling

Wasn't too worried about this - she's only 6 weeks and still sleeps a lot - but the HV raised a concern today.
My baby doesn't hold my gaze for long, has eyes that wander a lot and doesn't track objects. She definitely responds to light. She's not smiling yet. She doesn't often look at me when breastfeeding.
For context my older child wears glasses for a squint caused by long sight but her eyes didn't start squinting til over 14 months.
Should I be worried? Anyone else have this? We have family history of squints but not sight loss.

Next follow up is with GP at 8 weeks for physical checks plus jabs.

One of mine didn’t do this until perhaps around nine or ten weeks. I was really worried but it turns out completely needlessly.

Based on my experience, if she still isn’t doing it at your eight week check up the GP will ask you come back with her in a month to check again and then refer on.

I hope all is ok. Flowers

Thank you @TheStripes - that's really reassuring. It just took me by surprise this morning!

Didn't help that the HV receptionist managed to lose my red book too. They made me up a new one but had to register it as a data protection breach Halloween WinkConfused

One of mine did this. GP wasn't overly concerned at 8 week check but did a second review two weeks later, and there was a huge improvement. All is well now.

Thanks @TotoroPotoro - relieved to see it's not completely unusual

What gestation was she born at? I was told to add any weeks before 40 onto the age (even if not premature) just to help in assessing.

39+2 so that would make her only 5 weeks still

My little girl didn’t track objects and see light but we were told the biggest concern was that she didn’t smile. I didn’t know why that was a problem and within 48 hours of concern been raised we had consultant appointment at hospital.
To be told at the end of the clinic in a room alone with just a nurse and my child and after an over run clinic that she had a rare condition and the lack of smiling indicated she was blind.
I was then told I could sit outside and they would be around for 10 minutes for questions and appointments would be sent in the post for all the tests she now needed
