Do you give your baby added sugar?

Hi all. I have a 9 month old who has been weaning since 6 months.

Until now he has a wide variety of foods including different fruits, but I haven’t given him anything at all with any added sugar as I know it’s not recommended until over the age of one.

The thing is, I’m seeing more and more mums giving their babies the odd chocolate biscuit and their baby absolutely loving it, that I feel I’m depriving my baby of some of the simple joys.

So I’m curious. Would you let your 9 month old have an occasional treat like that?

My DD is 3 now, but I remember being a bit more strict about giving her anything with added sugar until she was about 1.5. Of course she had some birthday cake at her 1st birthday, and the odd lick of a spoon that I'd eaten ice cream with. It was more just that I thought she didn't really know what it was, so no point. Of course with her being 3 now she knows exactly what biscuits and chocolates and treats are. Thankfully she has a very balanced attitude towards it. Yes she asks for it often, but also knows that if she's had what we as her parents consider as enough, the answer will be no or that she can have it after lunch or dinner if she asks around those mealtimes. She herself says if some treats are too much. I see no reason to say no to her if all circumstances are fine for her to have some chocolate. I do tend to avoid sweets as much as I can though.

I prefer this approach for her because I have a very bad association with food. I comfort eat, binge eat, generally on sweet foods. This is all related to very negative comments about my body and looks through my teenage years, and I do not want my daughter to have the same hang ups as me, but especially to have such a negative emotional relationship with food.
