My baby is 1 year old, I am in the middle of doing a course and struggling to find childcare. My mother in law lives 2 and half hours away from us and she has said she will have the baby Sunday to Tuesday to help us out, I know she is trying to help but I am worried about leaving my baby that far away for that amount of time, I have never left him over night on his own before, has anyone left their 1 year old for this long? I am worried In case he forgets me

I have a baby almost that age and wouldn’t do it. Can you not send him to nursery / childcare or ask your mil to come home? It’s not reasonable in my opinion to send away a child that age for so long for a course

Yes she came last week Monday and Tuesday to ours to have him but unfortunately she won't do it again 😩 I'm stuck between finishing this course as there is a job at the end of it which I need and leaving my baby😔 nursery is not an option due to the cost

Yes I've done it, with DD1, MIL is about 50 miles away and would have DD for 2 days including overnight so we only needed the nursery for 3 days.
I think we started when she was around 1yr and continued until she started school.
DD and MIL have a great relationship now as without this she might have only seen her once a month.
We didn't do the same with DD2 as with DD1 in school by that time if didn't make sense for DD2 to be away, but during school holidays DD1 would like to go and stay with MIL for a few days so DD2 would go too probably from around 1yr old as well.
Children adapt very quickly, it will be more of an adjustment for you.

I used to go away for a couple of nights a month regularly for work when my son was about 18 months old, leaving him with family. He was about five hours travel away.

You don’t say how you are feeding but if your baby is used to having a bottle they should be fine. The hardest part might be getting them settled in different cot to usual.

They definitely won’t forget you!!
