My DS is 6 months next week. He wakes up at around 5am most mornings and I cannot get him back to sleep sometimes. It's now getting to me a lot.

He has a bedtime routine, starts at half 7 and he is in bed drowsy but awake at 8pm. He self settles himself to sleep for bedtime but not for naps in the day. He will wake up between 1am and 2am for a feed then go back to sleep until the 5am mark.

He has his first tooth just breaking through so don't know if this is a factor. I just don't see him ever sleeping through the night and feel like I'm failing.

He's young to be working through, . He's sleeping 8-5 with over wake up for feed, yes later cc would be great but that's not bad and you've Def not failed.

Will a feed at 5 work or can you put him in bed with you?

One wake at 6 months is pretty good tbh, especially if you're breastfeeding.

I wouldn't worry about not self settling for naps, DD didn't do that til about 9m even though she could do it at bedtime.

I'd try getting him down to bed earlier tbh, 8pm-5am is really not enough overnight sleep at 6m. Focus on his awake windows - jump on the first sleepy cue and head straight for a nap!

And hang in there. You're doing great

Thankyou. It just seems on every website they say 6 month olds could sleep through etc. Puts a lot of pressure on you!

@Ohalrightthen Ok I have been thinking about getting him to bed earlier, so may he worth a go!

Mine are 11 months, they do largely sleep through but often one will rouse, have a little cry and need a posh shush and pat. And they don't go down drowsy I can tell you.

Very few babies sleep through to the hours that suit their parents!
Lots of people consider 5/6am to be morning and time to get up with babies.
It's a killer!
I don't think my DD got remotely close to sleeping through until she was about 14 months old. That was draining!
