6 year old with ATTITUDE

My 6 year old daughter has a severe attitude problem and it only seems to be with me. She is OK with my mum or after school club. She knows she is not allowed to say the B word, but still says it anyway or under her breath to try and get at me, she says things like I'm going to punch you in the face, don't look at me, I don't want you to talk to me.

I don't react well by shouting back at her. Sometimes I just want to lock myself into a room and cry cos I feel like I've failed and she's never going to grow out of this. She is an only child.

Hi,
I've been very lucky with my quite relaxed and unbothered 6 year old that drives me insane with how calm and chilled she actually is but my poor sister had so many issues with my niece at 6, she went with the technique of not retaliating at all and just going straight for the severe consequences, that kid was without electronics and playing out for weeks but it worked and she's the sweetest little lady now, there's still attitude but it's miles better than it was before. I knew it was hard for my sister and the tantrums where long lasting but she stuck to it and it's worked
good luck with your little one, you can do it!

She's doing it because she likes the reaction. I would personally be completely cold. Look her straight in the eye, say "i refuse to be spoken to like that" and then ignore her for 10-15 minutes. Plus obviously a consequence like no TV that evening.

Don't bite back, try your best to stay calm, as as pp said, she's after a reaction from you. remove her luxuries when she speaks to you like that, but give her a warning first and then if she does it again then follow through.
