When did you stop using baby grows?

Just as the title says really! I have a 3 month old, almost 4 months, I go to baby groups twice a week and all the babies around her age are in such fancy clothes! I always just stick her in a baby grow (or onesie as I call them) every day. I just find it so much easier and with this cold weather the build-in mittens are a god send Grin I'm wondering if i should be a bit more experimental or keep using them, and what age people have stopped putting their babies in them?

Around 4 months, when he started shuffling properly, I started using baby gros just as pyjamas. He found it a lot easier to shuffle around in thick tops / joggers / jeans.

Parker231 · 14/11/2020 06:37

I kept them in baby gros until they were nine months. Nice and comfy and easy.

Disappointedkoala · 14/11/2020 06:37

Used as PJ's until about 10/11 months when I got fed up and brought some PJ's. She wore them in the daytime on and off until about 6 months but did wear a lot of joggers/leggings and tops from about 3/4 months.

I remember feeling under pressure to dress my small baby in clothes for baby groups too! A lot of them are ridiculous, fidly and uncomfortable for the baby too. Dresses on babies just ride up and can hinder them trying to crawl. I think I gave in with my first and bought some clothes that only fit her a short while. With my second I was so busy with 2 that I didn't, just kept him in onesies that you could layer up with vests or cardigans. It was so much easier but I definitely got a few comments like "don't you have any clothes for him" or something like that! Do what you want to do for your baby.

Yamaya · 14/11/2020 06:39

Oh forgot to say, I made the switch when he started moving around more and cruising.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/11/2020 06:41

A few days old with DD2. Found all the buttons a faff.... Leggings and tops were a lot easier. Or dungarees. All soft cotton jersey, like the sleepsuits.

Aria2015 · 14/11/2020 06:42

I used babygrows until about 9 months with my first! It was easier and also I always felt like he was slipping through my hands when I picked him up when he was in separates. I also found it easier and quicker for nappy changes because you have to take trousers fully off etc...

Have a newborn girl now and I have cute babygrows for her up to 6 months. I've been given cute dresses and with tights sets which I want to use, but I'm already put off by the fuss of getting tights on and off for nappy changes lol!

I just go for comfort and speed over fashion when it comes to babies lol!

Thatwentbadly · 14/11/2020 06:42

Before 6 months as they getting in the way of their crawling

xyzandabc · 14/11/2020 06:43

When they started walking. All of mine were super sicky babies though so nice clothes weren't really practical if they were just going to be sick on them 5 mins later. Also easier to change and wash.

Aria2015 · 14/11/2020 06:44

Oh and socks! Hate socks! They're always falling off or getting poo on them during a nappy change! Another plus to babygrows! No bloomin socks! Wink

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 14/11/2020 06:46

Until they start crawling. Her legs always seem to vanish inside the babygrow when she is moving. Still use them for bed though

Trixie18 · 14/11/2020 06:49

I kept mine in them till they were about 9 months then used them only at night. Don't worry about it, you'll know when it's time, if it makes your life easier. I felt no shame taking mine to baby groups in them, I was too tired, as long as they're clean you're a winner 👍

HarrietM87 · 14/11/2020 08:18

We used them as pjs until DS was about 9 months. He used to get his feet all stuck in them overnight so had to swap to proper pjs after that.

He was a summer baby and it was a heatwave so he didn’t wear them much in the day after the first 3 months. He was in a bodysuit over the summer and then I switched to leggings/joggers and tops at about 6 months.

I’ve just had another baby and imagine she’ll be in them a lot longer as so much more practical than faffing with socks etc!

Razpoot · 14/11/2020 09:07

Thanks for the replies! Interesting to see what everyone's been doing with clothing. Yes, i 100% agrees with the comments about the clothes riding up and socks falling off, argh!! I think ill keep her as she is as it's easy for me until she starts trying to crawl, i dont wanna make things harder for her in the onesies

Probably 12 months.

I didn’t buy outfits at all.
Chuck in the wash, dry on the radiator..done.
So cheep that if stained could just be binned.

I opt for ease over style. Couldn’t be bothered with pissing around with actual clothes.

MrFlibblesEyes · 14/11/2020 09:22

Do whatever is easiest for you and don't worry what everyone else thinks! Ds was mostly in babygros until he started to become mobile when they became more impractical (as soon as he could roll it was like trying to wrestle a cat into a carrier!) I think it also depends on the shape of your baby - ds was long legged compared to his body so when he started crawling the body would drag down under his knees and the empty legs would trail behind while he got himself tangled. They were a big no no as soon as he started trying to pull up as they were too slippy on unsteady little feet and for some reason I couldn't find grippy feet ones in anything smaller than 9-12 months which was too late for him! You will know when it's time to make the change, in the meantime enjoy the cuteness 😍

Albta · 14/11/2020 09:38

I loved baby gros - but by about 4/5 months his kicking and wriggling meant trying to get babygros and the poppers done was such a pain so went to separates.
Still use for nighttime sometimes but as pp said when they start Crawling they get bunched up in the baby grows and / or pop out.

Equimum · 14/11/2020 09:47

Mine wore them full time until crawling, and even after that, they wore them to bed (until potty training).

Athrawes · 14/11/2020 09:49

Until about 2 as bedtime wear.

This, word for word! I never understood how onesies are meant to be easier.

I hated all the faffy poppers. Dungarees over bodysuits from as early as possible for me.

Caspianberg · 14/11/2020 12:18

We use them still at 6+ months. But mixed up with soft leggings and dungerees. It’s cold outside here now so sleepsuit alone on his legs are too cold in the sling.

Dyra · 14/11/2020 12:49

As with others, about 3-4 months during the day. Still using them for nights at 14 months old.

Persipan · 14/11/2020 15:56

When he was in 0-3 months clothes I mostly kept him in babygrows, and maybe towards the end had him in vest + trousers with feet (he was quite long so it gave a bit more room to have the legs be a separate garment). 3-6 months clothes (which he went into before 3 months, 'cos, again, long baby) it was the hottest part of summer, so he was mostly in either a short-sleeved vest with dungarees or trousers, or just a romper. With his 6-9 month clothes (started wearing them at 4 months!) I did start using separate tops, because the weather got cooler so I could put him in vest (sleeve length depending on the weather) + joggers + top over the vest. The riding up doesn't make so much difference, since the vest stays in place! I can't be doing with some of the things people seem to put babies in, though - button-down shirts, for example, seem like madness.

Meepmeeep · 14/11/2020 16:20

We moved to proper clothes from about 6 months alongside babygrows. Now just over a year and I think we normally have one day a week when we’ll dress them in a babygrow.

AegonT · 14/11/2020 20:59

I only ever used them as PJs and carried on till potty training at 2 when we switched to PJs. But for the day I did prefer the ones without feet (romper suits?) or dungarees on my baby so no waistband. She wore things like that amongst other things right up to potty training too. Separates rode up before she could walk.
