I feel terrible

So I've recently bought some wax melts and a burner for my living room as I never buy anything for myself or the house much now we have our son.
I lit it when I got home from work and forgot to move it to the fireplace from the coffee table in the corner of the room.
You can probably guess what's coming but I was upstairs getting changed when my OH shouted my name over and over, I panicked and ran downstairs to see what was going on!
My son had been playing with his toy drum and slipped, hitting the side of the burner resulting in a few drops of wax on his face.
I'm extremely lucky it wasn't worse than that but my OH made me feel like the worst mum ever, and I truly believe I am!
I feel so bad, I feel sick!
Sometimes I just think I'm not destined to be a mother because I'm so rubbish at being one.

These things happen, it's a learning curve. As long as your child is ok then just make sure it doesn't happen again! Don't beat yourself up! X

It was just a small accident, there will be loads of others come along to tell you of far worse things that have happened to their DC.

BluSpider · 12/11/2020 18:49

I haven’t had candles or burners in the house since I had DC. I used to love them but it’s not worth the risk of a serious accident. It was neglectful to leave it on the coffee table with a small child in the room. Get rid of the burner, it’s dangerous.

Way to be kind @BluSpider. Tell us more about how much of a perfect parent you are Hmm

OP accidents happen, it could have been worse BUT it wasn't and now it won't because you'll never make the same mistake again xx

BluSpider · 12/11/2020 18:58

Of course I’m not perfect. But there’s a difference between a silly mistake and something seriously dangerous. If a child gets hold of something extremely hot it can cause a life changing injury. I don’t think it’s helpful to minimise that.

DuzzyFuck · 12/11/2020 19:02

And what exactly about her post made you think the OP doesn't realise that? Good for you though. Hope you don't have birthday candles on cakes either, they're both a fire AND a covid risk remember! Wink

MuchTooTired · 12/11/2020 19:15

It was an accident. You’re not a rubbish mother, you made a mistake. It’s shocking and terrifying when it happens, and can take a while for you to process it. Luckily nothing too terrible has happened, and It was a lucky escape.

My 18 month old got hold of a brewing cup of tea. It happened in the blink of an eye and was bloody awful. You’re not alone!

Be kind to yourself Flowers

It was an accident, please don't feel bad. Thanks

Most parents will have done something like this. Both DS' in separate incidents at age just 2 fell off of the sofa and hit their heads resulting in deep cuts and A&E visits, both times I was out of the room.

FloraFlamingo · 12/11/2020 19:32

Well, you won't do it again will you? Stuff happens and it's all a learning curve. Just put it behind you now

TJ17 · 12/11/2020 20:38

So you lit the burner but your DH was the one who was supposed to be supervising DS??? I'm not one for the blame game in these situations but he has no right to make you feel like a bad mum when he was the one responsible at the time. Could he not have moved them himself? Hmm

TJ17 · 12/11/2020 20:39

Anyway please don't feel like a bad mum. A bad mum wouldn't feel like a bad one. The fact you care makes you all the mum you'll ever need to be Thanks
