When did you switch from carrycot to pram/buggy seat?

My 4 month old just loves being propped up in the carrycot (she can sit up and support herself) so she can see, and I think she would love moving over to the pram seat. I have an iCandy lime which says to use the carrycot till 6 months but just wondered what others have done?

About 4 months! As long as they can sit up with the pram support and good head control. It opens the world up to them 😊 another option is to clip the car seat on if you can!

When she was able to hold herself in a sitting position easily at around 5 months.

About 2/3months as she outgrew the carrycot 😭

My pram was both - it lay flat, and then there were two different angles you could put it up to - sitting, and a kind of 'halfway between them' position, so I was able to lift them for a short length of time then lie them down again if I was out and about for any length of time.

About 5 months.

Just try it and see how you get on for a test run. You'll know from the position of baby whether it seems right or not.

About 10 weeks. He didn't like the carry cot and wouldn't settle in it. I got a pillow thing that went around his head and down his sides to cradle him a bit as he just looked so tiny sitting in the seat.

Terriblecreature · 12/11/2020 05:23

I was around the 4 month mark with my little boy. I had a bugaboo fox and the seat had so many reclining options so although in the seat he wasn't at the highest setting for sitting x

Harrysmummy246 · 12/11/2020 10:52

4ish months. He got too heavy for the carrycot and was much happier able to see the world (and had a massive nap the very first time we took him anywhere in it)

SnuggyBuggy · 12/11/2020 10:55

5 months and only that long because I'd use the sling instead. I don't know any baby that's lasted 6 months in a lie flat carrycot.

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/11/2020 10:58

Around five months, I held off as I had read you should wait until six but he was probably ready earlier. I kept him parent-facing until a year.

Emmacb82 · 12/11/2020 11:15

Had to at 3 months as he outgrew the carry cot. Same happened with my other ds. He used to cry every time we went out in the carry cot and now he’s much happier

Boringnamechanging · 12/11/2020 11:19

7 months and 6 months. Bugaboo buffalo/donkey which have big carrycots. Ds liked to sit up in it too which I didn’t do with dd as my attention was already split between 2 children.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 12/11/2020 12:44

About 4.5 months, he wanted to see out.

Thank you all. I was worried everyone was going to tell me I shouldn't even consider it if guidance said 6 months so I deliberated asking! But switched over today and she loved it, couldn't stop swiveling her head to see everything - happy baby.

I desperately wanted to wait until six months because that’s what the guidelines say. But it was unrealistic in practice as my baby was getting really frustrated and crying all the time in the carrycot, so we ended up switching when he was five months. He was instantly much happier!

PeigiSu · 12/11/2020 21:22

I kept DS in his until probably 6-7 months but largely because we’d had a second hand travel system from friends and the buggy seat had some evidence of mould (carry cot was fine) and we were being indecisive about which buggy to go for. He didn’t complain about being in the carrycot but he was quite petite and did seem quite excited when we finally did settle on a buggy where he could see more!
