How to stop baby scratching at night

Hi. My 5 month old has quite bad dribble rash and some eczema on his neck and chest. The doctor prescribed some creams which we are using and it’s getting better. Although the dribble is so bad we have to change his neck bibs 3-4 times a day to keep him dry

The issue is at night time he scratches and picks at his skin. I’ve cut his nails short to stop it cutting him. I can’t seem to keep scratch mitts on him? He just pulls them off. We’ve started swaddling him again to keep his arms away from his face / neck.

Anyone else got any tips? Thanks

Hi Op, we had similar with our DC when they were younger and we used these which were brilliant as they couldn't take them off.

You can buy pajamas with hand coverings. Google Exzemaclothing, and scratchsleeves for examples

Use the sleepsuits where you can fold the sleeves over their hands. They're available in most supermarkets.

Socks over his hands at night. W head to do the same for a few days. The sleepsuits with hand fold over only seem to go up to 6 months, ds is 6 mo this but in 6-9/9-12 sleepsuits and none of them have them

Just turn the sleeves over on his sleepsuits/babygrows

Baby grows with built in scratch mites. They are fairly easy to find in 3-6 months.

As PP has said: Scratch sleeves!!!
Our DS has severe eczema and these made a huge difference. Much better than mitts or inbuilt gloves as the hand part is silk so doesn't damage the skin.
It an also help to give a luke warm bath before bed. You can add himalayan sea salt or Oilatum.
Put a thick layer of emollient on right after the bath to seal in the moisture.
Consider wet wrapping if skin is very bad.
When mine is itching a lot, he typically needs steroid cream.
I still BF now at 11mo as it is the quickest way to soothe him back to sleep and stop the scratching.
