When would you potty train in this situation?

DD 2.5 and DC2 due any day

DD had shown interest in potty for a while and I feel we really missed the boat as we let her use it in mornings and evenings bare bottom but put nappies on for the day - I tonight we could then gradually extend nappy free time until she was dry in day too although whenever she wore knickers she'd wet them like a nappy. We gave it a break for a few weeks to try again and she will mostly use it provided she is bare bottomed, but she's much less interested than before and won't at all if she has knickers on (she'll poo in her knickers too)

One of the reasons we haven't pursued it too much is that I'm due any day and I'd heard that the new baby arriving can trigger regression, and I don't want to put too much pressure on her, but she's due to start preschool in Jan.

Would you leave another month or so or try again sooner? I feel like our approach that was meant to have been relaxed has just been confusing. She's also more interested in the toilet so I was thinking of getting steps and a toddler seat instead

If she's interested I'd probably just go for it - we did the oh crap method and we were done in a couple of days and that was from a standing start as my DD had no interest in the potty prior to training.

I'm due our second soon too and I'm sure we're going to have accidents but I'm looking at how much easier it's going to be that DD can just take herself off for a pee!

Id go for it. In the long run with be easier for you aswel. I potty trained mine when my 2nd baby was a month away from due date and im glad i did as after you get so caught up with other things. Least this will be out the way as long as the child shows interest and signs it will be over in a matter of days, but you need to be open to them having a few accidents along the way and you need to feel relaxed too xx

Hope it works out

Is DH going to be off work for paternity leave? If she’s interested and he’ll be around all day then I’d just go for it while you have 2 adults at home. My DS got it really quickly and was dry in a couple of days, my DD took a lot longer and had way more accidents, so you just don’t know how they’re going to do!
