WHICH CLOTH NAPPY FOR A NEWBORN?? AND WHERE TO BUY.....?

I started my last monster off in cloth at 5 months - I have a new monster due next year who will be cloth from birth - the question is which nappy????

I'd like to know what types of nappy and wrap people found worked well for a newborn. I'm expecting this one to be about 7lbs when first born (Ha! so that means I'm in for a 11lb er )

I'm planning on buying second hand so any suggestions on where to buy some would be a big help too.

Happy nappying

I used large muslins and xs rikki wraps. Bought nippas but didn't need them. Grew out of the wraps very quickly though so get them second hand. I use size 1 ellashouse day nappies too, but only to boost the bamboozle at night. Find they aren't absorbent enough fast enough if next to skin, so flood before wee is absorbed. Have been using size 2 popper bamboozles and onelife btp for 4 weeks I think and ds only 12.

We've had no problems with onelife - still going strong nearly 2 years on!

Jennster - your EH not absorbing properly might be because they aren't up to full absorbing capacity - this is what all my new hemp nappies did until they had been washed about 25 times (honest!). I put a tesco value microfibre cloth inside my EH and it solves the problem of them not abosrobing quickly enough, plus is puts the soft bit where it is importnant

argghhhhh...onelife - found them to be no way near absorbant enough and a terrible fit isn't it weird how different nappies ome to work for some and fail miserably for others? Just as well there is such a large choice...

Yep dd 21 months and they are sharing same nappies, still going strong. Never used motherease but I'm told onelife are stretchier around leg so more snug. The size 2 popper bamboozles can be folded down to be a btp nappy. I love them but think others on here prefer th other bamboo types.

Jennster · 17/10/2007 15:52

Def been washed about 25 times, but then they make a super duper booster.

FlameBat · 17/10/2007 15:53

I prefer the fit of bimbles/bumbles over tots too

Jennster · 17/10/2007 15:53

And dd not a big wetter like ds. She is ok if boosted.

I bought a brand new rainbow bamboozle and it looked as though a dog had attacked it before it had even been worn- all threadbare looking! I know loads of people who love them though and they seem to sell pretty well, so what do I know??

I have a Little Lamb Bamboo, it's lovely but it took 3 days to dry on the line in mid summer - good for night time though.

Has anyone tried the new Microfibre Little Lambs? My friend is selling all her size 3 regular Little Lambs to move over to them so I hope they are good for her sake. Anyone want some size 3 LL??? (hoping for some commission on the sale)

I cut it fine with newborn nappies - I had 11 bumbles and another 5 mix and match so 16 total but I had to wash almost everyday and even then only got away with it because I live in Spain and it was summer! I think I had size 0 although some seem every so slightly bigger than the others, but still small so I´m not sure? I got mine 2nd hand and I am so glad I did, he was out of them by 3months and definitely before the 14lbs they say they will last to. They were all nippa except 1 popper but to be honest the popper gave a great fit and dh loved it.

I had one fuzzi in small and tbh I did find it leaked everytime he had a poo in it although others haven´t seemed to have the same problem. I would like to use fuzzis again now maybe but wouldn´t for a newborn.

lubyluby · 17/10/2007 18:36

ooh yes, i would buy litle lambs for a newborn too, they ahve that fairy baby look to them so cute and fluffy, good performance too.

why do we do that, sell the smaller nappies and then panic when we need them again for the new children LOL!

ggglimpopo · 17/10/2007 18:51

God - this is all double dutch to me. I would love to try using cloths for this baby, but would not know where to start.

I used good old terries for DD1, 2, 3 but here in France would not be able to source or try the gorgeous new nappies and wraps you are all raving about.....

MurderousMaveta · 17/10/2007 18:59

ggglimpopo - I´m in Spain and there´s a couple of sites here but I get from the UK and the postage is usually really reasonable.. or failing that, I get family to bring out bigger orders

coby · 17/10/2007 20:25

ggglimpopo - funny you say that different cloth nappy types are hard to find in France. Many people seem to find that french clothes are cut far better for cloth nappies than british ones - I just assumed that was becuase they more into cloth in france than we are here.

Love flat terries and patterned 'Nature baby' wraps - come in cool colours and can be purchased for around £4 on ebay/£7.50 new.

Really mega happy with them

ggglimpopo · 18/10/2007 17:08

Thank you Clairybee. You are a star!

curlywurlycremeegg · 18/10/2007 19:02

I ship to France frequently ggglimpopo, postage isn't thank expensive and had been told the choice was rubbish in France from some of my customers but looking at claireybees links there looks to be some lovely nappies
