Safest forward facing car seat?

My little boy will be four next Spring. He has additional needs and I'm currently in the process of trying to get him a place at a SEN school. If we're successful, he should also be provided with transport.

He currently still rear facing (Axkid Minikid). It's going to be difficult for a transport company to put this in and out a couple of times a day due to the anchors etc, so I'm looking at my options. I'm wanting to buy our own car seat just for DS.

What would be the best forward facing seat for a nearly 4 year old that's not too complicated to put in the car constantly? Not sure on his height, I'd say he's slightly above average and weighs about 35/36lbs.

Thank you!

I’m assuming at four you’ll be OK with him in a high back booster? There’s lots of options—Joie Trillo, Cybex B-Fix. Just stick to well known brands so britax, Cybex, Joie, Maxi Cosi, BeSafe. Do you have a budget?

As you mentioned he has additional needs you might feel safer with him in a booster with an anti submarine strap—there’s four options; Britax KidFix, BeSafe Izi, Chicco Fold&Go, and Joie EveryStage FX. I’d personally recommend one of the boosters over the EveryStage unless you want to keep him harnessed until he is 18kg.

I wouldn’t worry about isofix in a booster as it doesn’t have to be used. I’d probably think that the fold&go would be the most practical as it can be folded up for storage etc, and it also has a shoulder strap which could be useful. We have the Britax KidFix III S which has a shoulder strap too which is supposed to lessen the forces and spread them across the chest.

Have you spoken to the transport company? Here the same firm do the transport for the local SEN schools from primary upwards (there's several children of all different ages in our local area who use the transport) so they'd be my first port of call.

If you are looking for a harnessed seat to 18kg I would look at the britax evolva. You can then take the harness out and use it as a high back booster. It is a very good forward facing seat. We also have a minikid, worth every penny.🙂
