Parenting books

Recommend me some parenting books aimed at under 10's age :) Tailored towards communication, how to get the little blitters to do what you ask, building confidence, managing anxiety...

My two dc age 3 & 6 are like chalk and cheese. 6yo Dd can be quite challenging, she's quite surly and rude seeming on the surface but quite insecure and lacking confidence underneath. Dh is permanently butting heads with her at the mo because of the surface stuff and I worry whether it's eroding away under the surface. But equally dd does need to be a bit nicer. It's wearing us all down. Dh said maybe he needed to read something. But I'm not sure what! Possibly he's hoping for a manual... 🤔

The only books we've got are 123 magic and how to talk so little kids will listen, which is almost aiming a bit too young now and more about emotional regulation and engaging cooperation.

How to talk so little children listen

Thatwentbadly · 07/11/2020 21:40

Sorry I meant to say try how to talk so children listen

Indecisivelurcher · 07/11/2020 21:42

Thanks, that's the only one I have already got. I've just skim read it though and remembered it is very good. I feel some of it is more relevant to my 3yo than my 6yo though so after the next step along. What to read for slightly older kids.

Thanks @thatwentbadly, am I right that the little kids was written by the daughter of the author of the original how to talk? I was worried it would be dated. Have you read it?

How to talk so children listen is the original book and the little children book was a later addition. Maybe try the one for older kids if you liked the little kids one.

@Indecisivelurcher "The book you wish your parents have read". Much better imo than the "how to talk" (although that one was not bad, just too obvious at least to me).
