What day did potty training click for your child?

Potty training dd at the moment. A few wees on the potty over last 3 days but I was secretly hoping for fewer accidents by now... Maybe that was wishful thinking? Or maybe she's not ready? She's 3 in a few months.

We did the oh crap method - halfway through day 2 with a bare bum it just clicked (after a horrendous morning where my husband ended up having to come and take over so I could cry for 30 minutes). Added in trousers that day and probably by day 4 we were absolutely fine and only had a few accidents after that.

I think we were lucky that it was clearly the right time - DD was at the stage where she was eager to impress and also didn't like getting told off her dad on that one morning!

ShinyGreenElephant · 07/11/2020 19:50

DD1 was just turned 2 and it clicked on day 2, fully dry by day 4 with pretty much no accidents again. DD2 we trained at 18m purely due to lockdown - seemed an ideal time plus tbh I was bored! Took 5 days for any progress, 10 days to be 100% dry but it was worth the extra hassle for how much weve saved in nappies! I would perservere now youve started. Good luck!

We're doing oh crap, day 1 bare bottom, 17 wee's and no accidents.

See how tomorrow goes with trousers on!

We're following the no knickers/pull ups/training pants etc

Oh and DD is nearly 3, lockdown got in the way so we have started 6 months later than we wanted

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/11/2020 21:04

Day 2.

By lunchtime of day 2 she was dry.

Greenhairbrush · 07/11/2020 21:07

Dd had just turned 2 and the first day was a disaster. Was ready to give up but didn’t. Clicked by about the 3rd day. Poos followed very quickly after but did take slightly longer.

Pantheon · 08/11/2020 09:06

Thanks everyone. Weve had a couple of attempts before this one including trying the oh crap method and just had no luck. Now day 4. Think we'll give it a few more days and then see.

What's this oh crap method may I ask

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 08/11/2020 09:18

I've never understood this naked child thing

Mine went straight from nappies to underwear and were clean and dry day 2 -but I did leave them slightly late at 2 and 9/10 months because I wanted to do it in the 6 weeks holiday

This meant I could do it with them so it was consistent rather than splitting their time between home and childcare whilst they were learning

lovescaca · 08/11/2020 09:19

We got my ds a mini version of a real toilet (Amazon) after trying potty etc, he took to it straight away! That was 2mths ago, he will be 3 in December. Now used the big toilet 👍

Pantheon · 08/11/2020 10:25

We've had success this morning! Oh crap is naked first for a few days before adding trousers and then much later pants @bumblebumblebumblebee dd wasn't a fan. Pants and trousers this time. We have that toilet too @lovescaca it's great!

DC1 - around day 5 I think
DC2 - basically from day 1 - only 2 accidents in total
DC3 - not until day 8!

Velvian · 08/11/2020 10:32

About day 280 for all of mine. Don't ask my advice on potty training. You would have thought I would have mastered it by DC3, but nope. Grin
Good luck Flowers

Gremlin1 · 12/11/2020 22:29

Still haven't cracked it eight months on Confused

piglet81 · 13/11/2020 07:22

Another one who took ages here! Definitely months rather than days!

NoParticularPattern · 13/11/2020 07:27

Well we are about 2 months in. It’s very frustrating because she’s very bright and knows exactly what she’s supposed to be doing, she just won’t. We tried bare bum and that just resulted in a very wet sofa and carpet so have gone for pants and trousers which seems less messy now. She’s happy to go to the toilet when you tell her to (although not for poo, she will only do that in a nappy 🙄), but if you ask her if she needs a wee she will say no repeatedly and then approximately 25 milliseconds later wet herself. She will be 3 in February and quite frankly I’m losing the will to live. We’ve tried off and on since she was 18 months and started telling us when she wanted her nappy changed. Feels like we’ve regressed 🙈

bluebluezoo · 13/11/2020 07:33

Day 1. One day we were shopping and asking for chocolate coins. I don’t know why I said it but I just came out with girls who go wee on the toilet get those, and she was come on then.

She was a couple of months off turning 3.

Dc2 pretty much the same. I’m a big believer in waiting until they are ready. I’d had months of grief off my mother about how if I didn’t “train” her she’d be going to Uni in nappies. I’d watched friends spend months chasing kids around with potties at baby groups and carrying endless changes of clothes around, mopping pee up off the floor. I’d say while mine spent a couple of extra months in nappies, they were all reliable by 3, and I hadn’t spent those months “training”.

Jobseeker19 · 13/11/2020 07:33

When you mum came over and she wanted to show her she could wee in the potty

Jobseeker19 · 13/11/2020 07:34

*my

AegonT · 13/11/2020 20:02

Sometime in the first week it got alot better but we still had an accident a day for a month or so. It was tricky but worth the effort. We used the Oh Crap method too (it's an instructional book). She was 2.4.

eurochick · 13/11/2020 20:04

Day 1. We tried a couple of times but it just didn't click. At just turned three she got it instantly.

Pipapple · 13/11/2020 20:07

Day three at 3.5 years old. We tried before but it never clicked, she wasn't ready.

33goingon64 · 13/11/2020 20:30

Both my DS were 3 and a half pretty much before we even started. Both got it quickly at that point.

currentwaves · 13/11/2020 20:39

3 months. Boy, started just before 3.

HarrietM87 · 14/11/2020 08:15

I trained DS at 18 months using the Oh Crap method. Day 3 there will still loads of accidents but it clicked on day 4 for wee. Took another few days for poo but I’m so happy I persevered as he’s now 2.5, has been out of nappies for a year and I cannot imagine changing a pooey nappy for him at this age 🤮.
