Newborn nights

My 5 week old doesn't wake for night feeds any more, just gives me a all the cues and makes lip smacking noises / grunts so I feed her then whilst she's still asleep and she stays asleep not even opening her eyes.

Should I wind/burp her when she's asleep after a night feed or just pop her back down in her crib?

Also at the start she woke up for every feed so I changed her nappy every time as was advised every 2 hours to change nappy, but now she's sleeping more - should I wake her to change her nappy in the night? We use reuseable cloth nappies if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help

Depends how windy she is. I always wind my baby as otherwise she gets trapped wind which wakes her up. I hold her against my chest with her head over my shoulder and tap her back and she will stay asleep if she's tired enough.

Nappies- only change if dirty. Or if wet enough they wake baby up. Obviously more frequently if she's suffering with a rash.

If the baby is a good weight then I would let her sleep as long as she likes. If the nappy is very wet or if she is getting nappy rash then i would change it. Sometimes, you can change it while the baby is asleep depending on how deeply they are sleeping .

Thanks for the reassuring responses! I'll wind her but not wake her for a change unless she poops.

I would wind her but I wouldn’t actually be feeding her unless she wakes up properly. I’d only change if the nappy is dirty rather than just wet.

Mine doesn't burp when she's asleep. If she passes out feeding she does her burp next time she's awake 🥰😂

We are in cloth too. We stopped changing at every feed/2h when she stopped pooing overnight.

We were doing 10, 1, 4, 7, 10. I dropped the 4 am change first. After a week or so the 1 am nappy wasn't really wet so we dropped to changing once during the night do 10, 4, 7-9.
We have since bought some boosters and now do 9-10 until 9 so 12+h

Does your little one not get uncomfy if they don't burp? I have tried putting mine back down to bed if she passes out on the boob but she instantly gets grizzly and you can see the discomfort even in her sleep so have to pick her up again to burp her!

I've never burped my breastfed baby a night and not had any problems, but I've also never burped her during the day either she almost always goes straight to sleep after a day feed so i don't bother disturbing her.

Ginfilledcats · 08/11/2020 21:31

I don't burp my breast fed baby she's 5 months and sleeps fine after feeding. I don't change her nappy unless she dirties is (usually loud enough for me to hear and wake up lol).

Good job on the baby sleeping through! X

Aria999 · 09/11/2020 19:20

@Margo34 not much. She does sometimes wake up and have her burp after 1 sleep cycle.

But however long I try burping her, if she's asleep it doesn't happen.
